Harp and Crown Pub — Restaurant in Pickering

This place is horrible. I specifically refuse to go here because their service toward women is terrible. I've been to this place only two times, and was asked to leave on both occasions. One of those times, I had been drinking, which I would understand if they also kicked out the drunker and rowdier boys I was with, but they didn't. The second time I went, I was with two friends, one male and one female, and the most obnoxious thing my female friend did was do a "raise of roof" move while sitting in her chair. We were "cut off", which consisted of the waitress wordlessly bringing us our bills, and when my female friend tried to order a pitcher for us three to share, she was told that she had to leave. She'd had two drinks. Meanwhile the table beside us was full of about eight men who were noisy, dropping glasses and breaking them, and spilling ice on the floor. Yet we were asked to leave, and not them. Finally, I have another female friend who went to this bar with the same group of guys I did on my first visit. They did their usual, and got drunk and had a grand time. My female friend sat at the table and did nothing, yet she was asked to leave. I'm seeing a pattern, and I am not pleased with it. That same group of guys I know, who are frequent patrons of this bar always say they don't know why this happened to us three girls and not to them when they get rowdier than we ever were just about every single time they visit this bar, and my guess is that the bar wants a specific atmosphere which involves fewer women and more men. I don't know why, but I have yet to visit this bar and have a positive experience, and I probably never will because I will not go there and give this place my business when I get such horrible...

Ate here last night with my wife and a very good friend who's in town. Yes, this seems to be a local watering hole and it was a bit noisy, making it difficult to talk, but we enjoyed ourselves anyway. I have to single out our server, I believe her name is Terry (Teri?) because she was amazing. Normally, the pub is very slow on Mondays, but last night it was completely rammed and she was the only server there. My wife and I have both worked in restaurants, and this amazing woman managed to keep up somehow. Most impressed! The fish and chips I had was good, but my wife and our friend's meals (seafood pasta) were missing a few things promised in the menu. Terry and the owner both came over to apologize and the owner promised that if we came in again he would cook the pasta especially for us (Terry said he's a really good chef who was unfortunately not in the kitchen last night: the cooks back there are new). I ordered the perogies and greek salad for take out. Beyond disappointed. The place is a dive, upon walking in your hit with the overwhelming scent of urine, so lovely. Visually looks unkept and filthy. As for the food I wouldn't risk it for fear of food poisoning. The pergoies were greasy and barely edible and the sour cream was well past any expiry date, clearly gone bad. The greek salad was plain and the dressing was also a disappointment, not to mention the hair I found in the salad, gross. I won't go back and I don't recommend anyone wasting their time money or life on this...
