Me and my friends were looking for a sushi dinner spot after our afternoon hike in the hills. Surprisingly, they were open! Me and my friends were so happy, so we told them a party of 4 people were coming and they were ready for us!

We came around June, during the pandemic, and we were still in the "safety" mode of wearing mask, and cleaning ourselves with alcohol wipes. I loved how the restaurant purposely set up for pick up for food and on top of that, inside they were ready to take only a couple tables of people for dine-in.

I love the atmosphere of the venue, and their placement of the tables to keep a safety distance. This was the first time back to eating sushi from a couple months of staying at home, and surprisingly, a sushi joint out here in Maple Ridge satisfied our cravings!

The special rolls were so delicious, and competitively priced as well! I ordered 3 special rolls myself, and my friend ordered a don, and something else. It has been a while, but I remembered their rolls were perfectly rolled, and topped off with such amazing ingredients. More like, I was surprised a place like in Maple Ridge had such an iconic spot!!

If I am caught out here again with my friends or something, I will be dropping by...

I have been going to Kisoji for years now and can confidently say that they are truely the BEST Japanese cuisine in the area (Port Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge and Mission). The food is excellent: Lots of great choices, fresh, quantity and size are above average, great Variety in fish and seafood, and it all tastes fantastic. They have great Oshi, Yakatori, and Ramen. Service is great too! Ms. Karen was kind, attentive, helpful, quick and always smiling. The setting is contemporary, great outdoor seating/patio, lots of easy parking and easy to find and get to. Prices are competitive and one can argue that is cheaper considering the freshness, variety, and quantity...you get more than what you pay for, which is rare these days. They even have a "party room" that can seat 16-20 people in case you have special events. I am now a regular there since I am a big Sushi fan. I have literally tried dozens of local Sushi restaurants, and even there are many good ones around, Kisoji is a cut above in every category. you won't be disappointed, it's a 10/10! Thank you Kisoji Team! we needed you in...

Disappointing Experience

I had a very disappointing experience at Kisoji. The service staff spoke very broken English, making communication difficult. Essential ingredients like salmon and tuna were unavailable, which is surprising for a sushi restaurant.

I ordered a mango roll but received an avocado roll instead. On top of that, the food took an incredibly long time—waiting an hour for sushi is unacceptable.

When it came to paying, my friends’ cards were declined, forcing me to pay. The staff blamed us for the issue, even though it seemed like a problem with their system. To make matters worse, after leaving, none of our cards worked at another restaurant, including mine, which had never been declined before. This raises serious concerns about the security of the payment process at Kisoji.

Overall, it was a frustrating and unpleasant experience that left us hungry and dissatisfied. I will never visit this place again. It is absolutely the worst restaurant ive...

[Pro] - Friendly staff - Clean place - Nice ambiance [Con] - Food is just decent (Chashu don was served in a stone bowl but the rice did not get crunchy at all) (Chashu ramen's soup was light but not rich in flavour. Very light body, noodles were clumped together) - Service was slow and seemed very inefficient. (Slow to take out orders. We waited over 20 minutes to get our food, then waited another 10 minutes just to pay. There were four people in the kitchen, four people up front. Despite all that, there doesn't seem to be food coming out of the kitchen, and the staff were all flustered and confused.) - Tea is charged and it's a very small pot of tea We could have caught them at a busy time (although it really doesn't look like it), but we wouldn't recommend and come back as we would rather travel somewhere else to get a better experience and food.

My brother took me out for dinner. We had the sashimi platter, wagyu uni truffle sushi, seafood and scallop inari, tuna shot and I couple of other sushi. Since we were having some beers, I was craving for softshell crabs. Though it wasn’t on the menu, they went out of the way to make it for us which turned out to be the best softshell crab I’ve ever had. Our server, Ai catered to everything to make our dinner satisfying including the platter from Japan that I really liked and my brother bought for me even though it wasn’t for sale. Everyone else who brought our food were all super friendly and accommodating. This is now our new place for Japanese food, we would love to share a saki with Ai next time. Thank you for a birthday sorbet and for a memorable dinner.

I was so excited to try here. Despite the lack of pictures I thought the reviews were very positive. $86 later and I can say I am really disappointed. The quantity was surprising small and the quality definately did not make up for it. The rice was on the harder side, the fish didn't seems as fresh as normal and some had odd flavours. Not fishy but odd- daikon, lemon, earthy? We also found extra stuff in our sushi which was not a good surprise hence the lower rating. It felt like the items had been sitting in a fridge for a while which might explain why the pork belly yakaton was cold. Not satisfied today and with so many sushi options out there I won't be going back. I wouldn't recommend here.
