Castle John's Port Hope — Restaurant in Port Hope

Called on Jan 23rd to make reservations for 15 people for a 30th birthday party for my husband, she was on the wrong date initially and after confirming the day and time, I called back a few minutes later to change it from 5pm to 6pm on Feb 3rd.

Showed up for our reservation and was told “no there is no reservation for you, we only show one for a party of 5 people” I was absolutely shocked, I asked to confirm the name, thinking maybe the amount of people was just mis-wrote, and she didn't even check. I asked if their phone number was the one google showed and she said “no that’s not our number.”

After standing there for a few min she said she would ‘see’ if they could get some tables together for us, when she walked away we called the number on google and their phone rang, not once, but twice we tried it.. we walked out the front door and waited for the other 11 people to show up for the reservation and told them what had happened.

This put a really sour experience in our mouths, not only because of the disorganization (which should have tipped me off when I initially called) but also because of the lying right to my face and blaming me for the problem, saying that I "must have called the Cobourg or another location."

We no longer wanted to spend any money there (ever), not only that but they missed out on hundreds of dollars because of this. We ended up just leaving without a word and going home and ordering in some pizza, stopping at the liquor store and having a nice night. We...

This place used to be so nice. This place has went downhill large! You can clearly tell that management really doesn't care about this place... I felt like I was in a hole from south Oshawa. Filthy tables.. always sticky.. rope lights that have been hanging hitting knees at the bar for well over a year.. missing tvs showing brackets on the wall for over a month now.. you just missed salea on black friday and cyber monday.. lmao.... the bench seats have always been the worst.. they know how many people dislike them yet they don't invest in their business to get new ones. Poor old guys sitting pretty much on lawn furniture at the bar that hate them.. no feedback from patrons taken to heart.. wifi always constantly going down meaning half the tvs have nothing on them.. can't pay by debit.. or use their ATM.. and no music playing at all! Way to set up your staff for failure.. let's alone the spineless owner sitting there just now hearing me say all this aloud while sitting in the next booth to me and not addressing it... John taffer would lose his mind at this place. Will Def not return and support this failing business that I'm sure won't be around much...

When we first came in the food and service was exceptional as we kept coming in the food has increasingly gotten worse. Our last visit we ordered the “jerk chicken” which was not your typical jerk chicken it was just chicken with a sauce on it. We sent it back and got it taken off our bill. Our server was really good about it. Tonight we ordered a steak and fries, the steak came out with some sort of gravy sauce on it, which wasn’t specified in the description. Upon cutting the steak it was more fat than meat. Only one bite was taken out of it and sent it back and we refused another meal, our server came back and told us they would only take 10% off our meal. We told her we would not be paying for it as there was one bite taken out of the meal. She then said she would take it off the bill. The 10% was what the owner told her to take off.
