This may be the first review of the Ocean View Hotel, so I would like to provide some additional information. Prince Rupert is at the end of the road in British Columbia, Canada. The city is served by the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry, BC Ferry, VIA Rail and Greyhound Canada, so there are lots of ways to visit by public transportation. Many of the towns in Southeast Alaska which are visited by cruise ships and have turned into tourist traps. Prince Rupert is like Alaska use to be before the cruise industry turned the communities into a place to buy a souvenir, instead of appreciating the culture, heritage, and natural beauty. ||||We were originally booked in the largest and highest rated hotel in Prince Rupert. A friend of ours had stayed in the Ocean View Hotel and thought we would enjoy the “funky” experience. He told me the hotel was clean and room #1 at the back of the hotel had an unobstructed view of the bay. He was right. We considered the hotel charming. ||||We checked in at the bar/restaurant and had reserved room #1 by calling the hotel. The summer rate was $75CAN plus tax per night for a room with a private Jacuzzi bathtub, queen size bed, small fridge, and flat screen TV with cable service. The hotel even had free WiFi in the room. Rooms are also available with a shared bath starting at $45CAN per night. The staff was warm, friendly, and very efficient. ||||Don’t expect the Ocean View to be a 5 star hotel because those do not exist in Prince Rupert The building is 100 years old and has been remodeled and is a good alternative to hotels, motels, and B&Bs. Finally, the food in the bar/restaurant in the Ocean View is first class. The halibut and homemade fries were outstanding and the lunch special, $9.95 steak sandwich and fries was perfect. ||||Finally I would like to share my logic for my overall rating of 4 on Trip Advisor. The room at the hotel alone is probably a 2 or 3. Based on the price we paid, the superior view from our room, the great food, and the friendly staff, I believe a 4 is the proper way to rate the...

Went 2 nights in a row, a Wednesday and Thursday. There is a big difference between the cooks for the week compared to the weekend I must start off saying. Had a Double Family burger and onion rings the Wednesday night and they were both so VERY Bland, no seasoning in the meat patty with not much sauce on the bun to make any kind of flavor pop....and I wouldn't get the onion rings again because those had absolutely no flavor to them and they rely on the sauce to cover the lack of seasoning. I do not recommend the non-chicken burgers or the rings ( was there with a co-worker and he had the mushroom melt and had the same opinion about seasoning the patty and burger overall), it wasn't a bad first experience but also not the greatest as food goes. The restuarant itself is wonderful and the servers are spectacular and quick! When we went back Thursday evening I noticed it seemed busier and there was different cooks on. I ordered the Nashville Hot Wings to start and those were out fast (wow those were actually spicy af' tonns of flavour, a massive difference from the night before already.) Then shortly my "Hot Chicken" sandwich came out and yet again I was just " blown away" by the flavour and my fries were salted and Hot. I Really Enjoyed my meal Thursday evening Considerably more then my first Visit and the difference between the cooks is ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE. This was a Very enjoyable experience both times I and coworkers attended. I would totally recommend eating here on the weekends but be weary of the week day. Thank you for the great view and meals. See you again...

What an absolute gem! Although not much to look at from the outside, you'll find yourself amazed by how nice the interior was overall, and even more shocked by the incredible food that the kitchen puts out. I ordered the Hot Chicken burger (Nashville hot style), and was absolutely amazed at the quality! The breading/coating on the chicken was suuuuper crispy and tasty, the chicken must've been brined, because it was super juicy, and tender. The bun was soft and delicious, the sauces they used were mouth watering, and the produce was so fresh, you'd thought you walked out of a hot steamy sauna directly into - 50 Arctic air! (Now that's fresh!) Normally I've always had less than great experiences at other places with takeout, but this was a game changer. Prince Rupert - be thankful, because a restaurant like this is hard to come by.

We came to this restaurant while on a cruise. It appears to be family owned and operated & it's also the building of the oldest hotel on the island. Restaurant has been refinished & the hotel is still operating. Ordered the Halibut fish & chips. It was a delicious, crisp, thick cut of fish, not oily at all. Onions rings were the same great quality. Prime views overlooking the water. Spacious indoor seating. Also, a great bar, if you're not there for a meal. All the staff went above & beyond to make you feel welcomed & explain the menu. The owner made a couple rounds to every guest to make sure everything went well. Very glad we chose here for our adventure meal.

Not everyones cup of tea, though the staff, great staff, could see they work hard and were quite accomadating for a motger and a two and a half yesr old, the food itself, as far as the burger tasting great.. i quote enjoyed.. not sure it was the fries.. or sat under a warmer, the glass in the place really ruined it.. and the poutine too salty. Also, animal fries.. are not ani.al shaped fries :?
