If you love — or even just like — jazz, this should be on your list to visit in the heart of Quebec’s Old City. We somehow missed it on previous visits, and so it came as a welcome surprise during Winter Carnival 2024. The decor and cozy atmosphere create a classic, yet laid-back vibe. Bob, the owner, is super-friendly and an accomplished guitarist himself. There is a modest cover charge when visiting bands are in the house, and drink prices are very reasonable (no food is served). We visited on a slow Monday with no cover charge when Bob and local musicians played, and again on a busier mid-week evening with a visiting band. Doors opened at 8pm, and the music, which was excellent on both nights, began at 9pm. As other reviewers have noted, the bar attracts tourists and locals alike, and it is easy to make friends with fellow jazz enthusiasts. If you have trouble finding seats or want to talk, head upstairs, though the view of the band is much more limited. We...
Read moreWhen we first arrived, the guitarist from the band greeted my friend and I and found us seats in the jam packed room before they began their second set. We enjoyed the band's final two sets. (alto sax, electric piano, double bass, guitar, drums) We wanted to experience quality, not contrived jazz from the locals and boy, we got it! The band is the best live jazz I've heard in a long time. Phenomenal -- Bravo! Also, I loved the energy buzzing in the room from the engaged patrons and our sweet bar maiden was like a woodland pixie. She handled that room effortlessly single handedly. I've experienced venues with far less patrons within where the multiple staff can't keep up, yet there she was doing a fantastic job, like it's second nature to her! This place has a definite...

I had an incredibly disappointing experience here. As the designated driver, I was refused water service and asked to leave the bar while the rest of my party ordered drinks. A kind patron nearby even offered to buy me a “fake” drink just so I could stay at the bar, which is ridiculous. To make matters worse, I wasn’t even allowed to have regular water—only overpriced sparkling water. This kind of policy is not only unreasonable but also discourages responsible choices. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who values good hospitality. In general the bartenders (female) seemed to be miserable. Owner was present for above and he offered no assistance to...
