My partner and I only had a single day in Quebec and we wanted to make the most of our experience. We had walked hours in Old Quebec and wanted to experience local food.
It was still midday and we browsed some restaurants. When we seen "Bistro", we decided too check out this one which had a menu displaying their options outside in both English and French.
We went inside and were greeted by a friendly hostess. When we responded to her "bonjour" with "hello", she brought us out English menus.
The place is very nice looking. There's two levels but we were on the first. Our table was a bit small but there were only two of us and we had the option to say no if it really bothered us. There was music playing of popular pop songs but it was modernized and played on guitar so it fit in with the restaurant. There were decor with cartoon pigs advertising the meat.
Our server greeted us in French but easily switched to English on discovering our English-ness. He got our drinks and recommended a beer for my partner. The chardonnay I ordered was tasty.
I ordered a BLT burger with fries and my significant other ordered a cheesy burger with onions and a salad.
I loved the home-made maple mayo dip for my fries! It was delicious.
I also liked the pecans in my BLT burger. That was a unique combination. The bacon was thick and salty. The salad that my boyfriend got was delicious, too. The beef patty was pretty good although for me, it unfortunately wasn't juicey enough.
We quickly ran out of mayo for our fries so my boyfriend asked the waiter for a new one of a different flavor. He happily obliged. It was nice of them to allow us to taste a different flavor. He got Chipotle. I preferred the maple one I had originally.
Everything was tasty and the atmosphere was friendly. The menu was easy to understand. I am not sure how service may differ if it is busy there, however. It really wasn't busy when we visited on a Tuesday. I liked how custom-made everything is and I really enjoyed it.
If I'm back in Old Quebec I'll probably return or recommend. It's pricey but all gourmet burger places are like that. I love the variety amd bold flavors that...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Bistro 3 Garcons while in Quebec City, and let me tell you, it was a wild. Going in, I knew I was stepping into a burger joint, but I felt adventurous and decided to go off-script. I bypassed the burgers and boldly ordered the ribs. Now, I wasn’t expecting much—after all, this is a burger place, not a rib shack—but boy, was I in for a surprise. As I was walking back from the washroom, I watched them delivering the ribs platter to my table and in slow motion I see the cup of coleslaw flying through the air and landing on my chair and floor. I felt so lucky not to be wearing that slaw all over my lap. Thank you good karma. Going back to food, the ribs were an absolute knockout. The BBQ sauce was this perfect blend of bold and punchy. Pungent, yes—but in the best possible way. The balance of flavors was so well-rounded and I never used my hands, just a fork, the meat just fell off the bone.
But I wasn’t about to stop there. I figured, “Hey, why not live a little?” so we also ordered the Charlevo burger. And let me tell you, this burger wasn’t just good, it was a moment. Juicy, flavorful, with all the right toppings, it stood tall and proud on the plate, like the hero of the meal. It didn’t need to shout, but you could tell it had a lot to say.
As for the sides, well, we didn’t exactly go light. We went for onion rings and poutine—because, why not dive straight into Canadian comfort food? The onion rings were crispy, golden, and perfectly seasoned. The poutine? Pure decadence. Those cheesy, gravy-soaked fries were like the comfort food version of a bear hug, warm, satisfying, and unapologetically indulgent. Honestly, I think I might have gained a few pounds just by looking at it.
All in all, Bistro 3 Garcons exceeded every expectation. From the unexpected rib success to the classic burger triumph, this place is a total winner. Next time, I might just skip the burger altogether and dive straight into the ribs —because life’s too short to stick...
Read moreSo disappointed in this place. This is the first time I have ever had a gravy with beer in it. I have a severe alcohol intolerance and it took a few bites until I started to feel strange. This should have been clearly noted in the ingredients of the poutine. I asked for the waiter to clarify and he confirmed that it is red beer they use, so I just asked for a replacement with regular fries. When the bill came, I was still charged the extra 5 dollars for the poutine and when I asked the waiter about it, he said it's because "half was eaten". I had taken 3 bites out of it before truly realizing something was off. I am not one to complain about my food unless something is really wrong so I had been trying to give it a chance. Anyway, I decided that I would not be tipping for this issue that happened because I felt it was a direct insult to me that I was somehow trying to cheat here or something. The waited pointed out that I did not tip when printing the bill. He proceeded to verbally harass me by saying that he will not get paid if I don't tip. When I decided to tip him 5 dollars so as not to make a scene, he proceeded to harass me again by stating that he needs his full 10 dollar tip as this is the law here. I just paid him what he wanted because I did not want more of a scene made and left. I did some research afterwards and came to see that this is not in fact the law in Quebec and that he simply took advantage of the fact that I am not a local by playing this card. Extremely disappointing and would not recommend this place to anybody. I can see now why this restaurant was one of the only places in the city tonight that was not fully booked....
