Alright kids, buckle up.
This was the first and last time I will ever be going to this outdated, overpriced excuse of a restaurant. The place was dark and cramped, not sure whether it wanted to be a lounge, a bar, or a sit-down restaurant. Televisions were propped up throughout the sitting areas to ensure that TSN at least got its money's worth, and the general decor hasn't been updated in 20 years.
This restaurant has FIVE leaves in its menu crammed from top-to-bottom with every option under the sun. There's "Greek," there's "Creole," there's "Italian," -- none of these options allow a consistency or set the tone of a "pizza and steak house". If all of the food is as subpar as what my partner and I had, then it's also a horrific disservice to the cultures mentioned.
We ordered the appetiser platter, on the premise that it had enough options for us to both be happy with. It was, as with the rest of the food, unsatisfactory.
The calamari tasted burned and poorly seasoned. The mozzarella sticks were obviously low-grade prepackaged and frozen. The chicken tenders were tough and chewy, and bland to taste. I barely want to speak about the baked potato; it could hardly be called a potato anymore. The thing was badly overcooked, with maybe a centimetre of potato left beneath the layer of (fake) bacon bits and cheese.
My partner ordered the "tossed" salad, which was lettuce, cucumber and shredded carrots all unceremoniously dumped onto a plate without being spun out to rid it of water. This collection of water ended up diluting the already miserable (allegedly homemade) ranch dressing, turning it into just a bland mess.
The baked ravioli... Dear me. It was swimming in meat sauce, which would have been fine if the meat sauce tasted like anything. Although apparently made in-house as well, it tasted much like they dumped in a can of Chef Boyardee and called it a day. The ravioli was incredibly thickly cut, and so al dente that it was barely cooked in the middle. When asked about it, the waitress tried to make it sound like pasta is difficult to make, and that OF COURSE they'd use frozen stuff.
Perhaps if they knocked a few items off the menu, they'd have time for more prep. Then they could maybe be bothered to make decent food.
Finally, the sirloin steak was at least unremarkable enough to be considered "good" at this place, in comparison to the other dishes. Although the cook managed to grill a rare steak, it may have been a touch too rare, to the point of being blue. The meagre pile of mixed vegetables were just a sad, steamed lump. The redeeming quality was the french fries, which were average.
All in all, this was a disappointment of a restaurant, which we will not be returning to. The food and decor are as bland and old as the restaurant's apparent target demographic, and ultimately leave much...
Read moreI took my 82 year old mother out for dinner last night and was completely disappointed in the service last night. It was terrible. It made me so mad. We dine out a lot and eat in various restaurants and I have to admit this was the worst service I have ever had. We were shown to our table buy another server, who was very sweet. Our server finally came over and uttered one word "Drinks?" in a rude tone. We ordered our drinks and at this point I am not getting a good feeling about this. The server came back with our drinks and said "do you know what you want?" Again in a rude tone. No smile on her face. She looked like she would rather be anywhere by there service us. She took our order and when it was time to bring it to the table, she comes up to the table with not a smile on her face or a welcoming attitude she literally threw the plates on the table. Not placed them down, threw them so they dropped out of her hands. Like you were about to throw a frizbee. I kid you not. Those plates went down so hard I thought they were going to break. That did it for me I was going to report this. Normally I say nothing but that just bugged me. This sever never tried to upsell any soup or salad, dessert nothing. When it came to the bill, she slapped down on the table and walked away without a thank you or anything. I did complain but it wasn't their fault. But this gets worse. Thankfully my moms fish and chips were awesome. Yeah!!! My Chicken Souvlaki was good. However, where was my chicken? I ordered a full order and got a half order and was charged for a FULL ORDER! I double checked the menu today. Yup I paid full price for a half order. And what about the soup and salad mom was to get with her entree. Yes it was fish and chips so I thought maybe it didn't come with it....sure of heck, I checked the menu and she should have had a soup or salad to start. For some reason they never offer you soup to start with anything, even if its not included Upsell!!!!! Well after this go around with the server, she received an insulting $1 tip from me. Rude manner, rotten service. Boy was she stupid, she could have got a $15.00 tip out of me last night if she just acted like she cared about her customers, smiled and made the customer feel welcome. From observation, we were not the only ones that were not happy with her. But to speak for myself only, after this it will be a long time before I ever step foot in that place and that kind of makes me sad. It's always been a great place for food which is now hit and miss and service from people there that don't give a damn. Even 2 starts...
Read moreThe mustard seed has higher quality food these days and probably better service too. For long time customers: THE GEORGES YOU KNOW AND LOVE IS DEAD, the new owners don’t care, they don’t respect us or our business and are cheating out in every way possible. . Over the course of months my family attempted to order George’s three times each order being about $75-$120 each. Each time critical order items like entrées were wrong or inedible and the quality of the food was lower than we had ever seen it previously each successive time that we ordered. The final time my boyfriend finally complained and talk to the owner and let them know that we have been ordering George’s for almost a decade and that due to the quality and the drop in service we were considering finding a new place for our family takeout nights as we can’t seem to get the orders correct anymore. They promptly told us that they wanted to make it right and offered us a credit to make up for this meal keeping in mind that this is not the first time but the third time in a row that they have sabotaged our family takeout night. We went on a family vacation for a month or so and missed family takeout night for one month and the next time we try to order from George’s to claim our credit we were notified that they were no longer honouring the credit for the food that never showed up in the first place or was wrong and inedible and we weren’t notified that our credit was going to expire and we weren’t giving an expiration date on our credit at the time that the credit was issued . When we mentioned to them that we had been calling and ordering for over 10 years and that this feels like having our money stolen they said A lot of people feel that way but that’s the new policy. Read between the lines here. Old time George’s pizza customers that made this restaurant in institution in this town has been complaining and being offered credit to make up for the poor service incorrect orders and bad quality of food and then having their credit stolen from them as a way to save losses. Absolutely disgusting do not order...
