I’ve been a loooong time fan of Albert’s, having lived downtown as a kid and my mum being a big brunch fan. But for some reason it took until this past week to get around to trying their evening menu, for when they turn into Same Old Dave’s.
Of course, the space itself is still the same, and the staff are too - so we already knew we’d be comfortable and well taken care of, but the dinner menu for Dave’s didn’t disappoint. It is small, with limited options but what they do offer - they do well.
My MIL had the fish n’ chips. Hot, crispy, good texture and flavour. She was happy with her lemon and tartar. They quickly brought out some hot sauce for her when asked (as she’s not a ketchup fan). My fiancé and I each had the rib special. A full rack of BBQ ribs with your choice of 2 sides for only $22 (if I’m remembering correctly) which is a $4 savings from the regular price any other day.
Our ribs were fall off the bone tender, not too sweet and not too spicy, with enough to fill up at the table and still need to-go boxes for the remainder. I had mashed potatoes and sautéed seasonal veg - both were fresh and delicious. Especially with the gravy. My fiancé had mashed potatoes and onion rings. He said the same for his choices.
As a family we also ordered the garlic parmesan wings, spinach dip w/ chips and loaded potato skins. All were fantastic choices that everyone enjoyed.
Our 15 month old son got to try ribs for the very first time with their kids entree. What appeared to be 1/5 rack of ribs with a scoop of fries and some carrot/celery sticks as well as a juice for only $8. An awesome deal for any kids meal let alone for one of this quality. Needless to say, he also loved his food and was very happy to make friends with the kind servers on shift who ALL stopped to say hello to him and smile/wave as they passed his high chair.
Thank you to the crew working that day, it was a great meal, and a great experience and we appreciate how warm and welcoming you were to us as a family with a toddler. Much appreciated! We’ll...
Read moreWe almost turned around since we couldn't find it once we parked. The Albert's sign is very prominent but couldn't really see Same Old Dave's. Turns out it's the same place but Albert's is open for breakfast and lunch and Dave's for dinner starting at 4pm.
For our meal we had the ribs which were actually fantastic. Some of the best we've had in a restaurant they were cooked perfectly and the sauce was super good. The asparagus were mostly good but definitely some chewy parts so not enough of the stem was cut off. The other dish we had was the spaghetti meatballs. This is the reason not for 5 stars. It was very bland and honestly tasted like sauce out of a can. The meatballs were pretty good however but not enough to save it. The service here was excellent and since the spaghetti was pretty dry our waitress was nice enough to bring extra sauce at no charge.
Based on the service and ribs we would totally go back but would definitely order something other than then pasta. Saw a burger and wings on another table and they also looked really good so...
Read moreEasy 5 ⭐! First time dining experience. My wife had the steak sandwich, which comes with Cole slaw and she ordered a side of onion rings. She said the steak was perfect and she really enjoyed her meal. I ordered the Beef dip and a side of slaw comes with plus I ordered Tots. Everything was excellent, good bun, good beef and tots. But oh no!!!! What's this?! They forgot my Slaw!!! Grrrrr! Not a problem. I simply mentioned to our excellent server, she apologized and promptly brought it for me.👍 Perhaps some of (few) negative comments that I've read for Dave's could have been diverted by simply mentioning (while they were still dining) their concerns and get them corrected. But Naaaaah! Best to give a rotten review. That'll show'em.🙄
The menu is not a big menu. However a good selection of different...
