Rotary Recreation Park — Attraction in Red Deer

A lot of people tend to avoid this area because it seems to be a gathering place for the vulnerable population in Red Deer. However, we chose to end my daughter's birthday party there, after a day at the rec center outdoor pool, and have a hot dog and marshmallow roast. The city of Red Deer used to provide wood for all of their outdoor parks, but they no longer do that. So, don't be like me and forget that there is not wood there. Bring your own, lol. There are several fire pits to choose from, and they have grates that you can swivel over top of the fire to cook on. We cooked the hot dogs directly on the grate, but tin foil would have been a good idea. There is a gazebo with picnic tables underneath it, but it was being used while we were there. The park is just up the hill and there is a fairly large wooded area that the teenagers had fun playing man tracker in. There is a hand pump that pumps up water, although I'm sure you cannot drink it, you can wash your feet and hands off with it. There is a washroom there, but I highly recommend bringing hand sanitizer or something as they are not the cleanest outdoor washrooms/out houses. The facility itself was nice and welcoming and ill give them a 3 star for the facility would be a 5 star but there was a staff member at the front desk that may need to be a bit more welcoming and friendly, as this is the 2nd time I've had similar occurrences. They might of been having an off day but this was still in no way to treat a customer with there child. I left there feeling very belittled and frustrated and went to the Collicut to further continue my business and to be informed of what the lady had done over at rotary rec. As the lady helping Me at rotary would not communicate with me and I had to get a 3rd party to contact them they passed my child's and my own membership cards to another lady and the lady we were dealing with she specifically stated "she did not want to deal with that lady (me) and to bring the cards to the lady over by the message board(which was me) and sent us on our way without any knowledge of anything. May need practice on whispering unless isn't was intended to be heard. But this was upsetting as my child and I were looking forward to spending time at the outdoor pool...

What a Fabulous, clean and fun facility! I brought my 4 grandchildren along with two of my kids and we all had a blast. We are not from Red Deer. What impressed me even more was my senior parents came on their scooters to see their great grands and the staff actually opened the locked gates and let my parents in the pool area to watch and visit with us.
