Where do I even begin. If I could give 0 stars I would. I booked through booking.com, and I expected everything to go smoothly. I had selected to pay at property when I checked in, and expected only my incidentals charge to be pre charged the day of. I was wrong - their night audit decided to charge my card the full amount of the stay PLUS the incidentals at 2am the morning I was to check-in (Sat, Aug 30).
When I got to the hotel, the lady told me my card was declined. Which I knew would be the case as I had it locked for that full amount - I only wanted the $100 authorized so I can pay once I checked in. A few conversations went by - she told me a different amount would be charged now, but they still tried to charge the full amount like before (even after stating it would only be one room Night stay). She couldn’t figure out the system, nor listen to what I was saying. So she grabbed, who I assume was the manager. His name was Karan. He immediately started raising his voice at me - saying how my card was declined etc. I tried to explain to him I wanted confirmation on what the total amount was to be charged and he kept being aggressive and yelling. He wouldn’t listen to me nor let me finish my sentence. He kept cutting me off. This made me so frustrated as I just wanted clarity and having him yell at me in front of my kids and cut me off every time I spoke was not helping! I have never felt so disrespected or embarrassed in my life for my 2 kids to have to witness this exchange.
We eventually figured it out, but he continued to glare at me all weekend every time I walked through the lobby to walk my dog outside. I felt so unbelievably uncomfortable, it ruined the start of our weekend. This man should never be allowed to speak to customers again, as he doesn’t know one thing about customer service. I also witnessed him having another aggressive conversation with another customer at the front desk in the evening of Sunday.
Now onto the property itself. I was appalled at the state of the hotel.
Parking lot: Electrical plugs taped to pillars in the parking lot, garbage bins that looked like junky plastic barrels they use for oil spills, pot holes at-least a foot deep and giant craters. Garbage EVERYWHERE on the ground around the property and in the parking lot. Having to constantly tell my dog to drop it or leave it because no matter where we walked there was garbage. Yuck.
Lobby and rest of hotel: Carpet stained in main lobby, garbage on ground that was left there all day. Again having to tell my dog to leave it every time we went out for a pee break was super awesome (NOT) (and the front desk staff could hear me they just didn’t care). the elevator was so tiny, and again garbage on the floor. Great. carpets on the third floor hallway were stained and an awful odour filled the hall - almost like old cigarette smoke mixed with something foul. the room wasn’t bad - however, stained carpets. Dirty shower curtain and ripped shower curtain on bottom.
I will say that the lady that checked us out of the hotel on Monday Sept 1 was pleasant to deal with, such a big difference in customer service compared to the check in process.
After this stay - the Wyndham brand has given me a poor taste in my mouth and I doubt I will ever stay at one of your...
Read moreAfter making the reservation, I realized the poor reviews about the lack of hygiene and maintenance at the hotel. Concerned about this, I sent two emails in advance to the management, requesting that they ensure the place met proper cleaning and maintenance standards, as my children suffer from asthma and allergies to dust and mites. I have evidence of my request and their response assuring me everything would be ready to receive us. Had I received a negative response, I would have understood and sought another option in the area. However, upon arrival, the reality was completely different.
From the moment we arrived, the neglect of the facilities was evident. The door handles were broken, posing a risk, especially for those traveling with children. The doors were broken, with chipped paint, dirty, and in a state of disrepair for months, not just days.
The bedroom lacked proper lighting, relying only on a small bedside lamp. The walls were not only dirty but also had peeling paint and poorly patched areas.
The bathroom was extremely unhygienic, and the overall cleanliness of the place was non-existent. The windows had drafts, were covered in dust, cobwebs, and dead insects, as well as stains from some liquid that had dried and stuck over time without being cleaned. The curtains were so dusty that just moving them caused dirt to fall. The bed had a yellow-stained blanket, and the sofa bed was broken, to the point that my children fell during the night because of a hole in the structure.
Despite the previous assurances, the room was not in condition. It was unnecessary to inspect closely, as the deplorable state of the place was obvious to the naked eye. We took photos on the first day as evidence, and throughout our three-day, two-night stay, no cleaning was done. Additionally, they only provided us with three towels for five people, making our stay even more uncomfortable. As expected, my children suffered from allergies due to the lack of hygiene, which could have been completely avoided if they had fulfilled their promises.
The front desk staff did not offer solutions and showed little willingness to help. In contrast, I want to highlight the excellent service from the restaurant team. The staff member at breakfast check-in was friendly, respectful, and helpful, and the staff attending to the tables provided exceptional service. The breakfast was of good quality.
Another concerning aspect is that the hotel’s advertising is misleading. The photos shown on the lobby screen do not reflect reality, as they have been edited to hide the true condition of the rooms and common areas.
I understand that large investments in maintenance are not always possible, but the lack of hygiene and the dilapidated state of the facilities are unacceptable. This experience confirms that Airbnb is a better option, both in terms of cleanliness, comfort, and responsibility from the owners, as well as offering more affordable rates than what you charge.
It is unfortunate to see how a hotel that could be a historic gem is losing its value due to...
Read moreWhen I entered the hotel :Baymont Inn Red Deer. I was extremely surprised on how beautiful it was. The lobby was decorated so nicely it was December early in the month , and they already had their tree up all ready for Christmas . it was nice to see and was very warming ,comforting felt like home. After coming inside from a very cold outside. Next I was greeted by a gentleman by the name of Eric who is more than friendly he was super helpful polite and extremely personable. He had amazing customer service skills that were above and beyond my expectations of a hotel concierge and in a hotel setting. I don't get the wrong idea this gentleman was an actual gentleman he was very sweet and had a way of really connecting with the patrons.he went above and beyond his regular job duties in order to improve and make sure that my stay would be the best experience I could have and made sure that all my needs were met. He was very informative let me know everything about the hotel in a very timely orderly fashion that it was extremely enlightening. Eric's has a personality that seemed to radiate positive with a friendly outgoing personable nature. you can tell he is a person who really enjoyed his job and working there at the baymont. I'm sure the rest of the staff is really friendly there was a girl who helped me get a new room key in the morning but I don't remember what her name. She was naturally beautiful she had darker hair a bit darker skin and she was also very polite and very nice. When I had checked in I had taken a walk to my room and had noticed that a beautiful hallways overlooking the pool at this point you know what you had to do when you found out that your room didn't face that way. I walk down to the front desk and ask Eric nicely how much more money it would be in order for me to have one of those nice rooms that overlooked that beautiful pool . He made a super quick easy for me he made it super easy for me and in a jiffy I had theb room overlooking the pool!!!
.The courtyard is absolutely amazing it's Serene and quiet even in the daytime when there's kids playing the dark almost rain forest like atmosphere s quite captivating The hot tub is attached to the pool which I thought was really interesting. Breakfast was included which was even better and it wasn't one of those breakfast you get at a Holiday Inn it was an actual buffet that was well made real food. I can't wait to bring my daughter here so she can enjoy the pool and the look of the place I'm sure it will be a time for her to remember I think it's a great place for just a weekend vacation get away for your family or a couple you'll spend the whole day by the pool I promise and you'll enjoy the people who work there. I recommend this place 110% and I hope you all love it as much as I did.
Thank you Baymont...
