Shanloon Chinese Cuisine House — Restaurant in Renfrew

Update: this place went from 5 stars to 2 or 3 max over the last 18 months.

The restaurant is no longer clean. The bathroom floors are sticky and disgusting. And the care for the food is no longer present.

Our table was not provided with napkins or silverware even after 30 minutes on site. I had to go take them off of another table. And it was another 10 minutes past that before we were offered any water. This would be excusable on a busy night but there were maybe five full tables out of 20.

The selection was basically three different kinds of bad cuts of meat flavored with sugar. Long gone were the citrusy notes and the well crafted flavour choices from the last time we were here. The previously tasty fried rice is now just an agglomeration of obviously overcooked and over chopped dry rice with some fake smoke flavoring.

What we considered as a lovely night out with good food in a plain setting, is now quite obviously in the standard death throes of a restaurant who is having a hard time making ends meet and then cutting costs in all of the wrong places to try to stay open. Which only further turns off any prospective customers.

We won't be going back. And that sucks...

I may be biased a bit by the beforetimes nostalgia since we haven't had buffet since 2019... But this was exactly what the doctor ordered!

The whole place is very clean, and the folks working there are a pleasure to talk to.

They have all the expected fare. And all of it was well cooked, with good ingredients.

If you are in the area it is...

American style small town chinese buffet; a staple in any rural community.

This establishment is nothing short of what you would expect from the standard American style Chinese Buffet.

All your deep fried and stir fried dishes, rice, rolls, and cold bar.

Its not fancy, but it serves well in its realm of eatery.

The place isnt super classy, but it isnt a dive either. The bathrooms are in extreme need of renovation and the service can be hit or miss, but its a buffet. Their radio can also tend ti be broken, so you will have long silent periods with intermittent radio coming through fuzzy just to stop or cut out again. Would be better to just turn it off completely in this case. Not sure if this has been fixed but it was very annoying during our visit.

Dont order ice in your drinks, as more often than not it will give an off taste to your beverage (most likely from infrequent ice machine cleanings)

The price vs value index isn’t terrible, although, the decision to remove the decent quality ice cream and replace it with No Name poor quality ice cream was a negative one, especially when Ice Cream is one of the VERY few desserts they have ever offered.

All and all, you know what you can expect from a buffet such as this, and you’ll get that, minus a few points...

Wish there was more choices but we did only go for lunch. So maybe there is more options for dinner. DEM CHICKEN WANGS DOUh. The chicken wings were so fresh and hot and crispy delicious tender and I ate alot. Love the beef and broccoli.. sesame chicken was also very good and so were the chicken balls. Fries were cooked to perfection with an extra crispy coating. Egg rolls were not the greatest but I'm also very picky with them lol. They had cheese for salads making but the lettuce was brown I just had a few chunks of cheese lol. Ice cream was basically walmart brand ice cream but great way to end a meal. But if you get their STRAWBERRY ice cream then that's the good stuff... it was seriously heavenly.

Service was very good, kept up with water refills and clearing away your empty plates. Will be...
