*** December 2021 Review *** Sushi | Party Tray | LLBO | Alternative location on Yonge | Take Out As their #1 Fan I came back again for my Love Boat. And they are LLBO now 🎉 I also just realized that they have an alternate location opened near Centerpoint Mall! 😃 Which I'll definitely visit in the near future. Food and service was great as always. Melissa was super sweet and made my Winter Solstice dinner wonderful. The chef also checked up on us, very cute. Overall, still an amazing experience and can't wait to check out their other location! ************************************************** *Soft Opening Review* October 2021 Sushi | Party Tray | Moved from old location | LLBO (soon) | Take out Followed them from their old location as I loved their food quality and service. It's been over a year since I've dined in with them since COVID hit, I was only able to order take out from their old location and eat in the car. I ordered our usual Love Boat for 2 and the quality is just as good as before 👌🏻And a tiny surprise of black Tobiko instead of the usual orange. Normally we get japchae and salad but maybe due to soft opening they're not doing it yet. They also didn't have uni a la carte at the moment. The service and friendliness did not change and just as lovable. ❤️ The sweet owner is still just as kind and hospitable. Their new location is clean and beautiful. Unfortunately they're still soft opening so their food delivery application and liquor license is still on the way. Overall, lovely experience. Can't wait to come back and visit again ... Although they're a bit further from their old location 😅

Ordered takeout from Sushi Express in Richmond Hill recently, and unfortunately, it was a pretty underwhelming experience. We placed our order over the phone, but had a hard time getting clear answers about certain items on the menu. Communication could definitely be improved. I got the 6-piece tempura, which included 3 pieces of assorted vegetables and 3 shrimp. It was just okay. nothing special, pretty standard. I also ordered a dinner box that came with 7 pieces of assorted sashimi, and this was the most disappointing part. The white fish and butterfish were quite chewy, and the salmon and tuna didn’t taste fresh at all. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt this off-put by sushi. The dynamite roll was fine, hard to mess that one up. The usual miso soup and salad that come with the meal were also just fine. Lastly, we got a shrimp tempura poke bowl (3 pieces) which came with a spicy mayo dressing, but since we ordered takeout, it came in a tiny sauce packet—definitely not enough for the whole bowl, and it made the whole thing feel dry and incomplete. Overall, I was disappointed. Between the lack of freshness in the sashimi and the missteps in takeout packaging, this visit didn’t leave me wanting to come back.

We discovered this place a few months ago and have been back every week! Hands down best sushi in the area for sure, service is always great and the sushi has always been fresh. Two of my favourite non sushi dishes are the grilled hamachi Kama and grilled salmon head. Everywhere else that I have had it always comes out fishy but not here! The chef always throws in extras as well but that may be YMMV as we are there all the time. Like salmon belly pieces on top of the salmon sashimi order, miso soup, salads, noodles, gyoza, salmon head, ice cream and drinks. Sushi rolls have a great rice to ingredient ratio, I hate maki rolls that have so much rice. Sashimi is very fresh, poke bowls are delish with lots of ingredients. Our friends call us sushi snobs but I would absolutely recommend this place. It won’t blow your socks off as it offers standard sushi restaurant offerings but the value and quality is superb. Chloe served us the most recent visit and she was amazing. 10/10 would recommend.

Saddened this place went downhill so fast. Akane Sushi used to be my favourite and my family’s favourite sushi place, but now that’s something in the past. The boat price increase is dramatic, but that’s still tolerable if the quality remains the same. We went at early dinner time and they said they were out of uni and hamachi. Two best things on the boat and they had none that day. Compensated with the wrong fish roe (even though we chose the salmon roe option we got the flying fish roe) and also replaced the missing fish with more salmon. The salmon was far worse in quality in this visit. Price hiking and lowering quality is not the way to go.

But we are not done here. The boats now no longer come with miso soup and salad. It used to be written on the old menu but now completely gone. Every visit we used to get pan fried salmon head on the house. And guess what, their cutting cost program got rid of that as well. This restaurant used to be a gem. It used to be such a highly rated place as well with a 4.9 star rating but now the place is cutting costs so much that they don’t seem to care anymore. Not surprised at all that the negative reviews are now rolling in. Not sure why this could’ve happened, maybe the owner changed or it’s something else? But to me this place is no longer the Akane Sushi I used to love. It’s now just a mediocre sushi restaurant.

Used to give a 5 star review for this place but due to so many negative changes, I had to delete and change to 1 star. Very...

I made sure to ask the lady what my order was exactly. I wanted to make sure it had avocado in it, and she said it did. After picking up the order and driving off, my partner opened the food container and noticed there was no avocado. I was only 10 mins away so I called the restaurant to let the lady know. She said "that one doesn't have avocado". I replied that I specifically ordered the yam and avocado roll, and then confirmed with her that it had both yam and avocado. She said "Oh, I misunderstood". I was charged for an avocado and yam roll................. I don't understand the confusion.

She didn't come up with a way to fix it for me, so I reminded her that I was 10 mins away and could go by. She replied that if I went there, she would make it for me.... But wouldn't start making it unless I was there. I found this silly because we were hungry and it takes them 10 to 15 mins to prepare the food, so why not start inmediately to have it ready? We didn't go back because we were starving and didn't understand why we'd let the original order get cold while we drive back and then wait wt for them to prepare what I paid for.

Anyway, their sushi used to be good. Not anymore. Waste of money and poor...
