The only reason I am giving this restaurant two stars instead of one is because the food itself was semi-decent.
Over the weekend we ordered through the UberEats app. When we received our bag, we noticed that a portion of the food was missing. The restaurant also failed to follow the requests we had made. I am gluten sensitive and finding a restaurant that offers gluten free options can limit your options.
The gluten free toast that we ordered was missing (even though they charged for it). There was no butter, strawberry jam, ketchup or any cutlery or napkins. We specifically made these requests and none of our requests were honoured. I know for a fact that they read the requests because for the skillet that I had ordered, I requested that the ham be replaced with bacon and that green peppers be added. They only followed one request and ignored everything else. Also, how do you expect us to eat a skillet? With our hands? The portion size was incredibly small. I don't even care that they charged for an item that only costs roughly $3.00. I was more upset that they didn't provide anything we had requested along with our order. All these family businesses have gone out of business during Covid, yet these bigger franchises continue to offer mediocre customer service and still remain standing.
We called the restaurant to get this sorted and all they did was blame the Uber driver. They said the driver forgot to pick up the other bag and that there were 2 bags for our order. Then I called the Uber driver and he mentioned he was in the area and he would go pick up the other bag and he wasn't aware our order was incomplete. We were already half way done our meal. There was no point in having the rest of our order delivered. I only informed the driver that he didn't provide the full order so that he doesn't make that mistake again.
But come to think of it, why would there be a second bag for our order? The one bag we received was HUGE. How big are napkins, cutlery, ketchup, jam and gluten free bread really? The restaurant clearly made a mistake and tried to blame the Uber driver instead. Horrible customer service! We definitely will not be eating from this location again. I ended up giving the Uber driver 5 stars because at the very least he tried to bring us the rest...
Read moreCora’s has been a family favourite of ours for years, so it really saddens me to see that the recent change in ownership/management has resulted in a steep decline in the quality of service.
After providing the waitress with our orders, it was quite a wait to receive our food despite the restaurant being relatively empty. The waitress also completely forgot to input one of the meals we ordered, resulting in my mother not receiving a meal. Once she delivered all of our meals, she asked if mother wanted anything to which my mother replied, yes because she had ordered at the same time as the rest of the table and the server completely forgot to input her order with the kitchen. She excused this by saying the restaurant was really busy, which as mentioned previously did not seem to be the case.
Our waitress also forgot to ask if we wanted toast with our meal (which might I add was stated as included with three of the meals we ordered as per the menu), and upon being prompted about it, told us that “people don’t usually want toast so we don’t ask”. After asking for toast, it took about 20 minutes for her to come back and tell us the toaster was broken and they had to re toast it three times, by this point we had already finished our meals and were ready to get the bill.
Very poor service overall, I think the server could have handled these issues in a better way by taking ownership for the mistakes made rather than trying to provide justification. Under current management, my family and I are sadly unlikely to return despite Cora’s being a long time family favourite. Sad to see this happen to a previously great establishment where we have had many great experiences...
Read moreI am a regular customer of various breakfast and lunch chains, but I wanted to try something different this time — so I went to CORA.
The location is convenient, and the staff were friendly and professional. The restaurant itself is spacious and cozy. I really liked the seating layout — the high booths give you a nice sense of privacy.
However, the food was a complete disappointment. The menu looked very appealing — large, colorful, with a great variety of dishes — it actually took me quite some time to decide what to order. But when the food arrived, it was nothing like I expected.
The homemade potatoes were so over-dried that they lost any taste of real potato. The mushroom omelet I ordered had raw mushrooms inside. The second dish — strawberry-topped toast — was even worse. The crust of the bread, baked that way during preparation, was completely burnt, giving it a strong bitter taste, combined with a sour jam that ruined the whole dish.
The overall impression I got is that whoever designed these recipes probably never actually tasted them. The food seemed prepared by following basic instructions — “add salt, add sugar” — without any understanding of flavor balance or texture. None of the dishes we tried were enjoyable.
The portion sizes were also surprisingly small. My partner and I usually share one main dish and one dessert at other breakfast places because the servings are generous. Here, the portions were much smaller, yet the prices were about the same.
Unfortunately, we left very dissatisfied. While the service and atmosphere were pleasant, the quality and taste of the food were far below the...
