MI-NE Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Richmond Hill

Me and my 12 years daughter after a long day of work and school on Friday went to the Richmond Hill location. First of all, I’m also an immigrant and English is not my first language with regards to all languages and cultures and communities. The person who served us does not understand English. She doesn’t understand my order and I try to explain over and over! When she finally brought me the wrong food and I complained she try to force me (as I understand) to EAT whatever it was on my plate 😅😅and she won’t change it! Unbelievable like a hidden camera she was asking me to put the crab and fish eggs on the side of my plate and I don’t need to eat that part 😳and she will bring me a slice of avocado on the side! Imagine!! I try to explain to her I’m a customer and don’t have to argue with me if she brought me a wrong order simply you have to apologize and change! My daughter's starter came at last when I asked to talk to the manager she refused to call her! When I find the manager finally and I start to complain about the delay and bad service she talk to her in their language and the manager left me middle of my conversation 🤣 it was a horrible experience with very pricey food and low-quality service. 1st time customer. I like to try different places and give them a chance. I come from a small family restaurant background, so I am considerate and even generous in my reviews. 3 stars is me being pretty generous. It was a pick-up order... but staff seemed nice, friendly, and polite (sadly, they were the highlight of this experience). The food was below average... the freshest part of the sushi was the rice... otherwise, it was one of the worst sushi that I've ever had. Dry, plain, not fresh... reminded me of leftover sushi out of the fridge... it was THAT bad. The miso soup was nothing special... and compared to other sushi restaurants in the immediate area, it was blah. Ordered the Teriyaki Mix (beef and chicken), the chicken was off-tasting, and my son couldn't identify the meat on his first 2 bites. The beef was okay... neither good or bad enough to write about. The ginger for the sushi was dry and old, like it had been left out or was poorly stored (uncovered and left outside). I didn't try the Wasabi as the sushi was poor enough already... my platter came with vegetables, which turned out to be 70%-80% onions. With a few pieces of brocolli for color. Literally THE BEST SUSHI place in GTA! I don't know what people write about previous owners / new owners. I've been coming here on a WEEKLY basis for the past 5 years, and it's always been fantastic! Some people say it's on the pricey side, but that's not true if you take into account the huge portions! Also, what's incredible about their rolls is that they actually use very little rice (only enough to "glue the roll together", and they are super stuffed with goodies like fish and avacado! So these are QUALITY sushi, with as little cheap rice, and as much good ingredients as possible! Totally work the extra buck or two!

Fish is ALWAYS fresh! Unlike Ginza (someone said it's better), where I actually felt sick several times (used to be a fan of theirs) after their greasy rolls and probably not - too - fresh fish.

The atmosphere at MI NE is very relaxing, with subtle music playing in the background, and if you can manage to get a booth it's quite cozy. Tables are always clean. Service is good for the most part, but when they are busy it does get difficult to catch a server. We prefer to come at non-rush hour times.
