Han's Dumpling Kitchen 五谷杂粮 — Restaurant in Richmond Hill

First time at Han’s. So glad we decided to pop in and give them a try.

The owner and staff are so nice and friendly and answered questions we had. The seating area is limited but most of their customers get take out. They offer more than just dumplings. Good selection of other items like snacks, pastries, specials, etc. They also offer frozen options to take home and cook yourself.

It is a northern China cuisine which is normally spicy but the spice was not too much for my spouse’s delicate palate.

We ordered:

Lamb dumplings - good lamb flavour (great with black vinegar and homemade chilli oil)

Pork and chives dumplings - really good

Beef noodle soup - tender pieces of meat, superlong noodles, good broth

Popcorn chicken - one of the better popcorn chicken dishes we’ve had in a while. Light crispy breading and juicy meat

Fried Chive Stuffed Pancakes - crispy pastry with generous amount of filling. So yummy

Complementary liver in chilli oil is sooo good

Will definitely be coming back and bringing...

Interesting place, small but modernist wood simplistic decor. Northern Chinese dishes, Mandarin predominately spoken

Looks like they specialize in pigs knuckle and pig intestine but their menu has variety of other dishes.

You can watch staff making noodles and dumplings in back counter, other counter has trays of pigs knuckle.

Ordered the cold noodle & chicken dish, pork & celery dumplings (15).

Chicken noodle was only level 1 spice which was quite spicy. They used a dan dan sauce which was thick and peanutty with an additional red spicy sauce

Dumplings were firm and pork/chive filling was generous with good crunch from the celery.(great deal 15 dumplings for $9.99). Had to make my own dipping sauce with vinegar and chili oil

Staff were very helpful and friendly although they tried to upsell us on their other "signature" dishes

Not bad for a quick...

Food was ok hence 2 stars, but the service was just terrible. Nobody came to ask us how the food was or anything. They basically just dropped the food off and left. Table was never cleared, drinks never refilled, napkins never given. At the end when we went up to pay, we tipped 5% for the service we felt like we received IF THAT. I am always a generous tipper, I hardly complain and am easy to please with food. As we were now walking out, the server chases us down and starts screaming "you can't tip this, you have to tip atleast 10%, service fee isnt included in the bill, this is nothing you have to tip more". Never have i had this happen to me, tips are never obligatory, anyone that wants it should have to work for it. Never returning. For anyone else, like I said, the food was good but the service ruined...
