It was dinner time and we had been in search of some Korean food choices, and I must admit that, contrary to some of our more recent experiences, this place was quite surprising and refreshing and fulfilled our Korean cuisine dining needs.
So, what can I say? In short: great menu selections; great quality of the ingredients; generous offering of the side dishes with tea; and an overall great friendly service with exceptional value to the consumer!
I ordered the Sujebi Gamja Tang (DS8), whereas my companion ordered the Doenjang Jjigae (DS13). I tasted both, and I very much enjoyed both dishes, but I had been particularly delighted with my choice as it was quite hearty and satisfying. The pork was very tender, and the broth was just right with a distinct combination of the right amount and type of spices and ingredients. In addition, the meals were complemented with the generously offering of tasty side dishes and a serving of tea that served to enhance our meals and dining experience. I had really felt as though the restaurant presented decent value for the price while making sure to do what it could to enhance the dining experience with first class service.
I had also taken the opportunity to glance around the restaurant, and I had observed that all the available tables had been seated and that there had been a queue at the restaurant entryway. Considering that it was a Tuesday evening, it become clearer that that this dining experience was in relatively high demand in the area. I should also mention that my companion and I both shared in that sentiment, and she in fact voted this restaurant among her favorites for Korean cuisine.
Lastly, as a side note to the cautious and reluctant visitor in reference to the overall logistics concerns, I wanted to add that the location is centrally located at a major intersection, and as such, it is fairly simple to access the plaza and subsequently to the restaurant itself. I thought it may be worth mentioning as access and/or parking provisions may be of concern or scarcity to some guests. Rest assured however, for this particular location, there is an adequate means by which to gain entry, and the parking provisions are plentiful without being rendered as additional charges to...
Read moreI was looking for Korean restaurants in Richmond Hill and was excited to try this place since it had a 4.6 rating. I went here for lunch and was a little surprised by the high prices. The lunch menu is basically the same as the dinner menu except that all items are $1 cheaper. Normally other restaurants lunch menus are more than $1 cheaper than the regular menu and come with additional items.
Other reviewers have mentioned the friendly service and abundance of side dishes and they are spot on. The service was good and the waitress constantly made sure our side dishes were refilled. My wife and I ordered the pork kimchi stew, bulgolgi with rice and the seafood pancake. Everything tasted delicious but there was something odd about the seafood pancake. For a $21 dish it was disappointingly lacking in seafood. In fact the seafood was almost non existent. We tried several pieces and looked in the middle of the pancake and couldn’t see any seafood at all. We were basically eating a green onion pancake. We told the waitress and at first she said the seafood was mixed in but when we told her to look again and showed her that the inside of the pancake only had green onion she apologised and said they made a mistake. She took back the pancake and said they would make us another one. Around 10 minutes later they brought out another one and this time you could actually see the seafood in the pancake. Although I still think for $21 there should be a lot more seafood in the pancake. Also, it’s kind of strange they would make a mistake like this as there was no green onion pancake on the menu, but I’m happy they took responsibility for it and took action to replace it. Hopefully this is not a normal practice and they aren’t actively trying to cheat customers. I have attached 2 photos of the seafood pancakes with the pieces of seafood circled so you can see what I mean.
Overall the experience wasn’t perfect but I’d still give them another try as the food and...
Read moreBueokae has become one of my favourite restaurants in the GTA. The food is soulful, the people are kind, and no matter what you order, it’s bound to be delicious.
The name “Bueokae” translates to Love’s Kitchen, and you can truly taste the love in every dish. Each plate is full of flavour, thought, and heart. My husband, son, and I enjoyed every single dish we tried, from Gamjatang Jeongol to Bulgogi, each one was absolutely delicious.
The staff are just as warm and welcoming as the food. They were so kind to our son, going out of their way to help with his requests and making us feel completely at home. My son also discovered new favourites including Goguma Jorim and Corn Cheese.
One moment that really stayed with me was seeing the staff take a lunch break together. They all sat around a long table, sharing food and conversation. It was such a beautiful reflection of the kind of community this restaurant fosters.
Bueokae makes you want to throw on your coziest sweater and settle in for a comforting, joy-filled meal. It’s a restaurant I hope to return to for many years as my...
