Disappointed by Staff Response Despite Years of Loyalty Woody Wood Burgers has been one of my go-to neighbourhood spots for years. The food is great, the staff has always been pleasant, and I've recommended it to many friends and family who all enjoyed it. However, during a recent visit, my experience was disappointing. While dining in the restaurant with my family waiting for our food I noticed three women entered with a dog in a stroller. The dog had no service vest or identification. A staff member that had just taken my order held the dog and was close to the kitchen. I was not comfortable with what I was seeing. She is meant to be preparing our food and now she’s handling a dog. When the ladies sat behind us along with the staff, I politely asked if dogs were allowed inside, I was told it was a “dog-friendly establishment.” I then asked if it was only service dogs that are permitted, she said yes. I then asked if the dog she held was a service dog, the staff in a dismissive, annoyed manner responded, yes. Under Ontario Regulation 562, dogs are not allowed in restaurants where food is prepared or served—unless they are service animals, which must be visibly identifiable or supported by medical documentation upon request. As a customer, it is legally reasonable to ask for clarification when a dog lacks any visible identification. Richmond Hill bylaws don’t make exceptions for pets in food establishments and defer to provincial food safety laws. As someone with a family member who uses a service dog, and as a dog owner myself, I fully respect the role of service animals. But the situation was not handled professionally, and we ended up packing our meal to go. I hope the restaurant provides better staff training on this issue moving forward. I felt the staff could have asked the dog to be on the patio to ensure the comfort of the other customers that were in the restaurant at the time.
This review isn’t meant to discourage diners—it’s heartfelt feedback for a beloved local spot. Woody Wood Burgers remains a gem in our neighbourhood. I just hope management will clarify or reinforce their service animal policy and train staff to handle these types of situations more...
Read moreWhile traversing the beautiful landscapes of Ontario in springtime we decided to stop at Woody Wood Burger, which according to their website is “home of the GTA's first wood-burning oven grill for burgers”. Woody Wood Burger offers a delightful dining experience with a welcoming atmosphere and a diverse menu to satisfy every craving. From the moment we stepped inside, the friendly staff greeted us promptly, making us feel right at home. There was no wait to place our order, and with the option to dine indoors or on the outdoor patio, the restaurant provided a comfortable and relaxed setting.
The menu boasts an impressive variety, featuring everything from mac and cheese to poutine, and, of course, a fantastic selection of burgers. Choosing what to order was a challenge, given the many tempting options, including different meat choices such as beef, bison, and elk. Ultimately, we settled on the Cowboy Blue Cheese Burger, Mushroom Burger, and The Low Carb-Uretor, accompanied by a side of fries.
Each dish was a hit—the burgers were perfectly cooked, juicy, and packed with fresh flavors. The mushrooms stood out as particularly delicious, adding a rich depth to the meal. The Cowboy Blue Cheese Burger was great, though the blue cheese flavor was quite subtle—something to keep in mind for those who love a strong blue cheese taste. One thing to note is that while some burgers come as a combo including fries, others do not—but the cost remains the same. It's unclear why, but it's something to be aware of when ordering.
In addition to the great food, the restaurant offers reasonable prices, making it an excellent choice for quality dining without breaking the bank. Woody Wood Burger provides a casual yet inviting ambiance, making it a great spot for a laid-back meal. Without a doubt, I'll be returning—next time, for the...
Read moreFor years I have wanted to try out Woody Wood Burgers. I have driven by their location numerous times, I’m not sure if it’s the actual name or the store front sign they have up that has enticed me to give it a shot or not for all these years. We finally decided to give it a try and ended up eating here the other day with my wife and child. I was shocked to find out this burger joint is a Persian style burger shop (not that there is anything wrong with that as I love Persian/Iranian food) solely because of the name. We ordered the Woody Wood Burger , The Elk Burger and the Mac and Cheese. The burgers were prepared with their each unique set of toppings. Usually I prefer to choose my own toppings but they never asked and I was curious to see what and how they set it up for us. The Elk Burger was tasty and there was a substantial amount of meat. The toppings mad sauce worked well and I enjoyed it. The downside was the bread which I wasn’t very fond of. The Bread was a little stale and tasteless. The Woody Wood Burger was much better than the elk. The meat wasn't over cooked, was juicy and the mushroom sauce was a nice touchSame issue with their buns that I had with the elk burger. The Mac and Cheese wasn’t bad in terms of taste, a it did have a lot of liquid and had a grainy texture on every fork filled bite.
The price was a bit high but that seems to be the norm everywhere these days. The staff was extra kind and very helpful. Clean little spot. Food is cooked in front of you and fresh.
I am not sure if I would come back, for sure not anytime soon as it didn’t leave any kind of wow factor. I do believe in my own opinion this place is highly over rated based on the reviews but I would recommend trying this place out and supporting this local business as they are good people, clean restaurant decent food and not...
