This review is more of a warning to people who visit this theatre but also praise for the manager I spoke with who listened and gave insight to resolve future issues.
I have never in my theatre going experience had this level of complete disrespect from the ENTIRE theatre audience.
Went on a $5 Tuesday and the vast majority of the theatre, from start to finish, was talking.... people were on their cell phones... My friend actually had to tell the theater QUITE LOUDLY to be quiet, and it did nothing.
I cannot understand what is happening to people, their complete and utter lack of respect in theaters and having zero theater etiquette (this was not the Minecraft or Star Wars movie - just a regular new release).
Never had I wanted to leave my seat and speak to a manager so badly - which we did after the movie.
The manager that day, Avani B. took time to listen to our concerns and apologize (which, my friend and I also being in the customer service industry we know there is nothing they can do directly but we are voicing our concerns).
She assured us that if people are talking or on their phones or filming, that we should tell a manager to which they will start doing theater checks and issue warnings to people and if the behaviour continues then they will be kicked out - no refund. I wasn't entirely clear on whether we (as people who are reporting the incident) will get our ticket refunded in every incident, because we are missing part of the movie to report this. She did explain that because we sat through the entire movie we couldn't get a refund which was fine.
This was not the first time I'd experience this level of disrespect at this location. Two previous times I remained silent when people were talking and filming and didn't tell staff though I did confront one audience member, an older asian man who was filming and taking pictures during Godzilla vs Kong in March 2024.
My friend wondered if it was just Richmond Hill location getting bad because he'd also never experienced this level of disrespect at other Cineplex locations.
Thank you Avani B, for your excellent customer service practices, for listening and reassuring us that this behaviour will not be tolerated.
But also, staff need to be trained that if a movie is RATED R - there should not be children in the theater. Just because kids and teens can buy movie tickets online doesn't mean we shouldn't be doing ID checks at the door. When did they stop doing that - bring ID checks back. There were kids and teenagers in the theater and this was a movie with quite gory murder scenes and tons of...

SilverCity Cinemas in Richmond Hill at Yonge and High Tech is a great place to catch the latest movies. This cinema has been around for over 20 years and has always been a go-to spot for me when I want to enjoy a good movie. There is always something to watch, and the experience is top-notch.
One of the things I appreciate about SilverCity is the food and amenities. The buffalo chicken wraps are always a favorite of mine, and the soft drinks with 100 flavors to choose from are great too. Of course, no trip to the movies is complete without popcorn, and SilverCity always serves up fresh, delicious popcorn. The bathrooms are also clean and well-lit, which is always a plus.
In addition to the great food and amenities, SilverCity also has a small arcade with games to play and win prizes. It's a great way to spend some time before or after the movie. The lighting in the arcade area is great, making it easy to see all the games and prizes on offer.
But what I love most about SilverCity is the price. This cinema offers a great movie-going experience at a great price. You don't have to spend a lot of money to enjoy the latest movies in a comfortable and clean environment. This is especially important if you're someone who likes to go to the movies frequently.
Overall, I highly recommend SilverCity Cinemas in Richmond Hill at Yonge and High Tech. It's a great place to catch the latest movies, enjoy some delicious food and amenities, and spend some time playing games in the arcade. And with their affordable prices, you can enjoy all of this without breaking the bank. Thanks, SilverCity, for providing such a great...
Read moreTerrible Experience at SilverCity Richmond Hill – Poor Maintenance & Security Concerns
I had an incredibly disappointing experience at SilverCity Richmond Hill Cinema, and I feel compelled to warn others before they consider visiting.
Poorly Maintained Facilities – The cinema is in terrible condition, particularly the seating. The chairs are old, worn out, and uncomfortable, which makes watching a movie for a couple of hours quite unpleasant. For a theatre charging premium ticket prices, this level of neglect is unacceptable.
Major Disruption & Security Issue – The worst part of my visit happened near the end of the movie. With just 10 minutes left, a couple casually walked into the auditorium from the front door, leaving it open. This caused daylight to flood into the dark cinema, distracting the entire audience.
Safety Concerns Ignored – Given Toronto's increasing crime rates, this situation immediately raised concerns among many audience members about the possibility of a robbery or theft. People in the theatre were visibly uneasy, and some even complained to the staff. However, the staff admitted they were already aware of this issue but did absolutely nothing to prevent or resolve it.
It is shocking that a well-known chain like Cineplex allows this level of mismanagement. When customers pay for a premium movie experience, we expect a clean, comfortable, and safe environment. Sadly, SilverCity Richmond Hill failed on all fronts.
I strongly urge management to address these security lapses and improve the overall conditions of this theatre. Until then, I do not recommend this...
