BOY WITH A KNIFE — Restaurant in Richmond

We hired Boy With a Knife for our wedding in August 2021 and I regret it every day since then!

Their food is delicious; yet, their event management and execution was an absolute disaster! And how they handled it after my complaint, was even more disastrous! Very very unprofessional, unapologetic, and discourteous!

I am a chef myself and I’ve been operating a small catering company in Vancouver since 2014; so, you can imagine how important it was for me and my husband to serve the best food at our wedding! We went for a tasting in January, and we loved it! They truly nailed it with taste and presentation! But on the wedding day we were really disappointed!

I am going to keep it simple and try not to go through details as much as possible! The service was an absolute disaster! During the dinner time I (the bride!!) had to go to the kitchen 3 times to see what is going on with the food! unorganized and nervous looking servers running around unsure of what to do; our wine and water glasses were empty the whole time! The whole service was a mess! Everything was served very cold including meats! Every dish looked so sloppy and most of them served in wrong order Salads were nothing compared to what we tasted! Wilted greens with few hard to find, tiny toppings! Some plates were even missing the dressing! Every dish was plated in a shockingly sloppy and messy way and were missing garnishes (apparently, they messed up the rental dishes, so they plated some items together in a pile!) Visually none of the food items looked anything like food at tasting session! We had very important family members with dietary restrictions and none of them got their designated food served properly! The whole thing was quite embarrassing! During the planning I could feel that some of their planning did not sound right so I was trying to help with suggestions, but they repeatedly showed full confidence in what they are doing, and I made the mistake of trusting them As I mentioned, the worse part was that they didn’t even take responsibility after I let them know of our terrible experience and kept bringing up excuses to justify...

Don't get me wrong, the servers are great, very kind, but very slow... Took awhile to get the physical menu after we were seated (at least 5 minutes). By the time the server came back, it was already 10 minutes that passed.

We ordered 2 burgers, one was the miso mushroom burger (which is in the photo) and a Maq Burger. Didn't order any upgrades since it was very expensive.

Pros: The burger was really good, fresh. The fries were good, a bit salty side though. (it's similar to mcdonald's) Server is nice, atmosphere is nice and the vibe is good.

Cons: The upgrades are very expensive...$5 to upgrade your fries when other places wouldn't charge so much. One of the cooks sneezed and didn't cover it, continued putting ingredients into our burger as I watched him continue to put it on the table that it was ready to be grabbed. He didn't even wash his hands after... disgusting. overall, eating here with 2 people took more than an hour, you'll be late for work if you eat during break the opening hours are catered around 8am-2:30pm on weekdays (no weekends), it's designed to serve workers nearby but with the slow service... it's hard to sustain as a business when people have a time crunch. the washroom is dark by the way, so if you need to use the washroom it'll be rough to see.

Likely not going to come back since the timings are off, came here since I used to work nearby and wanted to come back again, but looks like quality of service may have...

If you are looking for a wedding caterer, you need to go with BWAK! They are amazing to work with, and their food is incredible. After 4 years of planning and replanning due to covid, we finally had our wedding last Saturday and it all went so flawlessly. The food was all amazing, and we had many people tell us that it was the best wedding food they ever had!

I also worked very closely with Joey Greene as my wedding planner. He has such an amazing eye for detail, and not only helped me coordinate everything to make the day go smoothly, but made sure the day itself looked absolutely magical. I literally cried when I first walked into the venue because everything was even more beautiful then I could have ever imagined! He was also so patient with me throughout the whole process - whether that was with covid related issues, helping me find vendors, or just bouncing off decor ideas together and putting up with my constant indecision! He truly went above and beyond with our wedding, and I can't rave about him enough! It was also super nice having a planner that is part of the catering company - just made everything go that much smoother!

Also if you have any food allergies at all - BWAK is the best! Both my husband and I are gluten free, and wanted to make sure that all the food was tasty without feeling like anything was missing.
