I started coming here more regularly because I work nearby, and also wanted to eat more "clean" and be more health-conscious.
However, I might start coming here less now. More recently I have felt that they are more stingy with how much vegetables they put on your plate. It starts off with spinach and kale (they'll put about 4 leaves of each). If you ask for "a bit more" they grab maybe 2 or 3 more leaves. I have to do this with each vegetable as I move down the line. How much you get really depends on who is filling your plate. Today, after I filled my plate, the guy asked me if it's ok that I'm charged more for the extra vegetables. I honestly didn't think I asked for that much more than I normally do. It's roughly the same amount compared to my previous 10+ visits there. I told him no I'm not ok with that, so he didn't charge me extra in the end. To them, "more" vegetables is like 2 extra leaves of spinach, 3 leaves of kale, 2 extra broccoli, etc. The onions and red pepper are already sliced so thin. "Extra" zucchini is like 3/4 of a slice of the zucchini.
This place is really a rare gem. I think frequent visitors here are ones who want to eat "better". But if they start to get stingy with the ingredients, I think this will end up like Subway, where you ask for "a bit more veggies" and they grab 3 slices of thinly-sliced cabbage and 2 thinly-sliced green pepper.
It's a nice little open, cafeteria-like restaurant. Very good place to relax and grab a quick hand-cooked meal. I just wish that when I ask for "more kale", I'm not made to feel like I'm breaking their bank as they put 2 or 3 more leaves of it on my plate.
I also know I'm not being unreasonable for asking for a bit more. I weigh and track my food regularly. What they consider "more" is about 5-10 grams of extra ingredients. Personally, I think they are better off giving customers those extra few grams. It makes the experience better. And I'm sure they're not going to go broke because of 3 or 4 more slices of chopped-up kale.
They have 3 sized plates. I normally just go with the regular (medium) plate. I once tried to go with the bigger plate, but you aren't getting that much more with the bigger plate (bigger plate doesn't mean they'll grab more ingredients). In fact, I would even go as far to say that the biggest plate is where you get the least return per dollar.
I saw some of the replies from the owners in some of the other reviews. I want to defend the customers by saying that we're not asking for unlimited vegetables. I think it's mainly about the appearance of stinginess when sometimes the staff seems so reluctant to grab just a bit more. I get it, it's a business, and the business also has to make money, but maybe make the experience consistent by raising the price instead? Or the customer has to constantly wonder at which point they tip the scale and trigger "extra vegetable cost".
One final note. The food itself tastes great. However, sometimes the food is really burnt... So that's another area where they can...
Read moreToday was my first time here, I am a vegan and this was a great place and option for me. Food was delicious
Now let's get into details
The service: I walked in they greeted me asked for my name and reffered to me by name which was a great personal touch. They staff recognized fast that it was my first time and assisted me jn making my choices and how their menu worka. Friendly and was greeted with a smile
Dinning room: clean modern sleek not much to say here but I felt nice here definitely your typical health food stop
Food: look let's be honest and real, most people that eat thesw types of places commonly because of long term life style understand that there is certain things that will be missing specialy for me being a vegan. Did this affect the way I tasted the food no! It was absolutely delicious ( had the Savage suace ) how ever most people come to a place like this and have unrealistic expectations of healthy food
Those that judge hard I feel probably were eating less healthy options merely weeks ago.. this is a life style for me and I thought they had great food
Totally coming here more often, I'm not sure if I was dealing with the owner but definitely management and again super friendly ! But come with realistic expectations, this is what healthy food taste like if that's what you are looking for this...
Read moreWe stepped into this brightly lit and welcoming store on a weekend in search of a healthy and nourishing meal! There are many different offerings here. There are customizable bowls where you can choose your own rice or noodles with veggies, proteins, and homemade sauces, real fruit juices or smoothies, or real fruit frozen yogurt blended together. The friendly staff helped us with the choices and gave recommendations to make it easier.
I ordered a Regular Bowl ($15.95) with egg noodles, various fresh veggies, hormone-free chicken, and teriyaki sauce. I wished I asked for more sauce as it could've been more saucy/flavourful, especially compared to my loved one who got a mixture of 3 sauces and that had great flavour. We loved how the ingredients and toppings were all made on a grill top in front of us and it is served sizzling hot!
The fruit smoothies ($8.65) were such a treat too! We chose the Green Machine (spinach, apple, kale, pineapple, banana, low-fat vanilla froyo) and the Classic (strawberry, banana, orange, low-fat vanilla froyo). We LOVED how refreshing and natural it tasted.
The next time we’re looking for delicious food with nutritious and fresh ingredients, we’ll definitely be returning...
