Read moreWow! Honestly, it's a very nice katsu place. I've only had a few minor gripes with my dish, but overall, I was satisfied.
When I got in there with my friend, they warned you that you have 1 hour to order, eat, and pay, which is understandable due to the amount of space. When we got seated, the waitress served us tea, which was nice and hot.we both quickly ordered, and we ended up getting the Tonkotsu set and the assorted Tonkotsu set.
I had the Tonkatsu assorted set, and I will say a few things at first glance. The presentation was very nice, and the katsus cut was nice and thick. One thing that I did notice, however, was that one side of my katsu was wet, and there was a pool of grease below. We also decided to follow these instructions on how to eat the katsu that was written up on the board which told us to add sesame in the katsu sauce, sprinkle salt on the katsu and add some Wasabi.
When I took my first bite of the pork katsu, it was nice and juicy, had a nice crunch, and was overall satisfying with a nice blend of katsu sauce, Wasabi and the pork cutlet itself. When it came down to the cheese katsu, it was alright, and there was nothing much to talk about. However, when I got to the prawn, it was nice and crunchy and had an elegant and balanced flavor between the actual prawn and sauce. Everything else on the set was standard. Miso soup tastes like miso soup from any other Japanese restaurant. Salad tasted like a salad, not too fresh, but it's not rotten. The salad dressing it came with was alright, and it elevated the salad in terms of taste. However, some of the grease that I mentioned earlier had mixed into the salad, so I had a nice mouthful of salad mixed with vinegarette and grease from the katsu.
One major gripe I had was the rice. It was so wet. It was borderline glue and approaching Congee consistency. Please learn how to cook rice properly.
Overall, on a good note, I was satisfied with this place. Nice staff, good food (for the most part), and overall nice environment to be sitting in while eating katsu. Fix the rice, and try to keep the katsu grease away from the plate. It's definitely a must try and I would recommend my friends to come here and eat a nice...
Read moreNestled humbly along No. 1 Road in Terranova, this unassuming gem draws crowds like bees to honey. The restaurant does not accept reservations, but if is so beloved that within mere minutes of its noon and 5 PM openings, the seats are spoken for, often leading to a waiting list that can stretch up to two hours. To secure a spot, I highly recommend arriving a few minutes before the doors open. We thought we had time on our side, arriving just 15 minutes post-opening, only to find every table already occupied. After registering my name and number, we were quoted a 45-minute wait. Although we didn’t stray far, the restaurant called us twice, the calls slipping into voicemail, nearly costing us our table. Thankfully, I returned just in time to keep our place.
The wait, however, was rewarded with one of the most delightful dining experiences—a haven for comfort food that leaves you deeply content.
The restaurant’s interior is sleek and modern, with floor-to-ceiling windows that bathe the space in natural light, giving it a sense of airiness despite its modest size.
The star of the menu is their deep-fried breaded pork, humorously reflected in their logo—a spirited, angry pig. But they also serve up equally tempting options like deep-fried breaded chicken breast, tiger prawns, and scallops.
I indulged in the Cheese Katsu set—a mouthwatering creation featuring thinly pounded pork encasing a generous block of mozzarella cheese. It was nothing short of delicious. My daughter opted for the Hiyashi Ramen, a chilled shoyu-based soup garnished with fresh shredded greens, cabbage, pickled radish, cucumber, fresh wasabi, and tamago. My husband savored the Tonkatsu set, featuring deep-fried breaded pork loin.
Each Katsu set is accompanied by unlimited servings of shredded cabbage salad, miso soup, tsukemono, and rice, with a variety of dipping sauces and daikon adding layers of flavor. The combination of cheese with pork was particularly unique and satisfying.
Service was prompt, and each dish arrived hot and freshly prepared. The portions were generous, comfortably feeding four, and leaving us thoroughly satisfied.
This is a place I will return to time...
