Cora - Breakfast and Lunch
Location: Coppersmith Corner Shopping Centre 11380 Steveston Hwy #170, Richmond, BC V7A 5J5
During a recent visit to Richmond, we had the opportunity to dine at Cora for breakfast. This location, nestled within the Coppersmith Corner Shopping Centre, offers a diverse menu that caters to breakfast and lunch enthusiasts alike. Here’s a breakdown of my experience.
Service:
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a young hostess at the door. Unfortunately, her demeanor lacked the warmth and friendliness one expects from a welcoming staff, which set a somewhat disappointing tone initially. However, the experience took a positive turn when we were seated. Our waitress was notably accommodating, exuding friendliness and good humor throughout our meal. Her attentive service significantly enhanced our visit.
Rating : 9 out of 10
Food:
• 10 Star Skillet with Egg: This dish features a hearty combination of bacon, ham, sausages, frankfurters, bologna, spinach, green onions, tomatoes, onions, red and green peppers, and mushrooms, all topped with cheddar cheese. The portion was generous, and the ingredients complemented each other well, creating a balanced and flavorful dish. This skillet is a satisfying choice for those who enjoy a variety of breakfast meats and vegetables.
Rating: 8/10
• Halloumi Chorizo Sausage: The halloumi and chorizo were paired with spinach, black olives, sun-dried tomatoes, green onions, and a drizzle of hollandaise sauce. The saltiness of the halloumi and the bold flavors of the chorizo were well-matched, while the freshness of the spinach and the acidity of the tomatoes rounded out the dish. It was a well-executed offering that delivered on flavor.
Rating: 8/10
• Morning Hot Dogs: This dish consisted of frankfurters, bacon, and melted cheese rolled in crepes, accompanied by a side of potatoes. While the concept was interesting, the execution fell short. The flavors were decent but lacked the depth and distinctiveness that would make this dish stand out.
Rating: 6/10
• Elise Brioche: A standout dish, the Elise Brioche featured a brioche dipped in toast batter, served warm with a medley of strawberries, blueberries, and harvest crunch, garnished with English cream and cream cheese. The combination of flavors was delightful, with the freshness of the fruit pairing beautifully with the rich brioche and the lightness of the cream. This dish was a highlight and comes highly recommended.
Rating: 9/10
Beverages:
• Iced Cappuccino: Unfortunately, the iced cappuccino was underwhelming. It lacked the richness and depth of flavor expected from this beverage. Rating: 6/10 • Raspberry Pina Colada Smoothie: While the smoothie was enjoyable, it didn’t leave a lasting impression. The flavors were pleasant, but nothing extraordinary. Rating: 6/10 • Beet Cocktail: The beet cocktail offered bold, earthy flavors that may appeal to those with a palate for more adventurous drinks. While it was a bit strong for my taste, I appreciated its distinctiveness. Rating: 7/10
Ambiance: The restaurant boasts a clean, inviting environment that is both comfortable and welcoming. The atmosphere is well-suited for a casual meal, with a layout that allows for a pleasant dining experience.
Value for Money: Pricing at Cora is reasonable, particularly when considering the portion sizes and the freshness of the ingredients used. The restaurant offers good value for those seeking a substantial and flavorful breakfast or lunch.
Final Verdict:
Cora at Coppersmith Corner Shopping Centre delivers a solid dining experience with a variety of well-executed dishes. While there were minor setbacks, such as the initial greeting and some of the beverages, the quality of the food and the excellent service from our waitress make this location worth revisiting. I look forward to exploring more of their menu offerings...
Read moreOk so my friend and I got food here. I like my food. my friend found a dead earwig bug in his food. enough said? Ok I will continue. I went back a few days later to get take out. The owner's son said it would be 15 mins. 17 mins later I asked if it would be much longer, the son said no of course, it would be right out. 10 mins later a waitress told me my food was ready and could I pay. I said ok and paid. Then I reached out my hand for my food, I assumed she had it behind the counter. She then said "what?" I replied "you said my food was ready could I have it?" she said "oh no its not quite done yet." So now I had been waiting for about 30 mins so I asked to speak with the manager which happened to be the owner's son. I asked him if there was a problem with my food as I had been waiting for a bit now. He said no he was just making sure all the food was getting a "quality check over" to make sure it ok. about 10 mins later a woman came over with my food at which point in time I said "finally!" she frowned at me and turned the container with the food sideways lol! By now I was extremely frustrated and asked her why she did that. She replied in broken english "who care? just food, goes in stomach all messy." At which point in time the manager (the owner's son) explained that was his mother. So after being treated awful and waiting for about 45 mins for a simple breakfast when I was told it would be ready in 15 mins, I asked for some compensation. The owner's son gave me a $10 off coupon which I thought was nice of him until I read it. The coupon had expired a month before lol. So I said to him "you are going to make it up to me by giving me an expired coupon??"
He said "sorry sorry" and that was it. So I left and went home to eat my breakfast. Now this was my fault, I should have checked the food before I left but as the owner's son assured me he was personally making sure the food was the right order and all I didn't check. It was the wrong meal. I called back and asked the owner's son about it he said he would check with his dad and call me back. He never called back. I went back the next day to see about it, I was confronted by the son and the dad and told I was no longer allowed in the restaurant. I laughed histerically. I informed that was ok, but would he listen to what actually happened? No he said "all my fault, I no allowed back" IF I have questions I could call corporate head quarters. I said ok I will but I told him he should really think about the example he is settting for his son.
All in all I am still a little confused to this day about it, still trying to figure out how this place stays in business if that is how they one make/prepare their food and two treat people. But I guess stranger things...
Read moreWe heard about Cora's $1 children's meal promotion on the radio and decided to visit the restaurant on June 4th at 10:00 in the morning. This was our second time dining at the Richmond location, as our previous experience a year ago was quite poor.
Upon arrival, the restaurant was bustling, and we had to wait in line at the entrance for about 20 minutes before being seated. Inside, the five of us were assigned to a very small table. In order to accommodate the other four people, I had to sit in a cramped half-table space. When it was time to order, the server attending to us was unfriendly and rough in their mannerisms. For instance, they kicked items that fell on the floor to the side. We asked the server to take our order promptly, and they complained about us under their breath, which I overheard. I understand they were busy, but I cannot accept such an attitude. These factors only added to the disappointing experience.
After placing our orders, only two out of three children received their drinks, and we weren't provided with a glass of water. Additionally, when the pancakes were served, there was no syrup. Such basic oversights and lack of attention to detail were evident. Furthermore, it took 20 minutes for the two pancakes and two children's meals to arrive at our table. If hosting a promotional event results in such an unpleasant dining experience, then what is the purpose of the event? It's like shooting oneself in the foot. It is regrettable to say that I do not foresee another visit...
