Went here a couple times with a big group of friends for a few different birthday bashes. Always enjoyed a steak and have those fancy lobster tails is always a delectable treat for me. Haven't visited this location on my own yet but I will at some point since it's close to home. When I get into the Canadian Armed Forces and I have time off, I will bring over my military buddies for a big victory dinner when I eventually reach the rank of Captain. I had ancestor from the Vietnam and France war in 1820-1880s that had the rank of Lieutenant but he was so prestigious in his military career he was awarded land and that's where my father's side of my family originates from. For me military isn't just the end goal, I am by heritage defender of people and maybe the only one who could one day be a great Prime Minister of Canada. For me I have visit all the places in BC I've grown fond of. I grew all my life in BC but I don't belong to just BC but to the world. It's how I made thousands of friends here in BC but hundreds across the world through mobile games I play. Being Captain Canada was in my DNA and the way I lived life for the 31 years I had face every thing that would normal break a person but I'm strong, intelligent and brave enough to turn a 0 percent chance of victory all the way into a 300 percent. While the service can be slow at times it was because we had group of 20+ friends. I'm come back to this keg on a quieter evening for dinner and then re-evaluate the service when it's just for me. I might see far too kind with the review but I don't know how to be any other way. Unlike other people, I was bullied a lot until my late 20s and sadly a man like myself who sworn oaths to protect life isn't always going to be understood with my gifts of intellect and a physique that I overwrote after 25 years of work. As kid I believed I was genuinely stupid, fat and worthless but something amazing happened in the last two years and I leveled up over 25 years so much I'm hardly recognizable to even the close family members. There is a reason I was given the title the 3rd Captain America but I'm not American, I'm Canadian so I should be called Captain Canada. One I'm be Prime Minister but until then I have so much work to do before I get into office but until then I'm drop every once in awhile to make sure this keg is still in business. Food and Drink are the cornerstone of all human society for thousands of years and this Keg happens to a great place to dine and enjoy beverage of choice. I may change the service to 5 stars but I have to visit there by myself first. While others need to strong motivation to operate life on their own, I don't because I have literally thousands of people (if not more) depending on me to succeed. I'm the type of Commander who jumps first out of plane, lands first and leads his troops to victory on and off the battlefield. I'm take some unnecessary risks but everyone who knows me, knows I'm a guy who lives fast and hard so others don't have the same pains he does. That's what it means to be Captain Canada and one I'll make the grandest speech and save my country. Until then I have put everything on the line for many years before I'm ready to Canada and then the world to unity, harmony and true global peace. I will need a place to get food at and this Keg will one of several places I visit before I eventually leave BC to go serve my country where my military sends me and I'll be Combat Engineer Reservist before I'm Captain Nguyen, Engineer Officer full time. I don't like fighting or war but that's why I choose rebuild instead of destroy as a Combat Engineer then Engineer Officer. Yes I seem a tad off with dreams but unlike others when I'm done planning and strategizing, I blitz my goals so hard that it's truly something to see. If I could rewrite my entire destiny then I should be able rewrite other's people destiny's. There is time to jump out the plane 30,000 feet in the air and there is a time to wait but waiting time is over. Time to jump, time for...
Read moreWent for an early dinner as we hadn’t been for quite some time. My son and I very much looking forward to a good meal as we had in the past.
Server was exceptionally great however the ambience was off. A table by us facetiming with someone while other tables were trying to enjoy and unfortunately it was not discreet. We did our best to ignore this but what happened to common courtesy?!
Our appy and salad arrived rather fast but there seemed to be a wait for our main meals, no big deal for us as we were not in a hurry.
Sadly, my son cut into his steak and it was raw. We checked with our server and she was quick to confirm that it indeed was cooked wrong. She took just the steak away from our table in which I thought a new one would be brought. However the same one that was cut was brought back, just cooked to the medium rare that was ordered. Correct me if I am wrong, but is there not some type of food safety rules regarding taking food after being served to a table ??? Are they not supposed to provide a new serving, as opposed to just throwing the uncooked steak from our plate onto the grill to be cooked a bit longer? Seems pretty unsanitary to me…but I am not expert.
My filet mignon was not as tender as I thought it would be and seemed that it was the wrong cut of meat as it was tough to chew. Odd but then again I am not an expert.
Overall our server was amazing and sweet, however our usual experience of having a great meal was tarnished by our dinner that night. We both took more than half of our main courses home but we have no interest in eating our pretty costly leftovers. For one thing it weirded us out that the raw steak that was cut was just thrown back on the grill and brought back to us. It’s a shame as eating out at restaurants is not cheap, it was supposed to be a treat for us both and The Keg has always been known for being somewhere you go if you want a step above other chain restaurants.
Very upsetting night, wish it didn’t turn out this way as The Keg was always one of our “go-to” restaurants in Richmond.
Hopefully this doesn’t happen to...
Read moreI used to think the Keg was affordable and food was yummy. I would visit any keg restaurant when I was on business trips. However, it was hard to convince my family and friends to share my view. Despite the bad reviews from them I insisted that it was a great place. Last week, I finally got my friend to go and share my favourite baseball steak with me. When we ordered, I deliberately asked if they will cut the steak before grilling or afterwards. After confirming that the steak would be grilled in its 12 oz state, we ordered and said we will split the steak when it arrives. After a long wait, the steak came but it was grilled in 2 halves. I asked the waitress about her confirmation, she just said I don’t know why they split the steak into 2-six oz before grilling. Then she walked away. When we cut into the meat, it was definitely more cooked than medium rare. So we talked to the waitress again. After listening she walked away and then came a person who appeared to work at a higher grade. She said the meat looked done under patio light. The steak was medium rare and not overcooked. It looked less red so because we sat in the patio (!!). It is not that we have never grill steaks before in our BBQ. We know what a medium rare steak looks like. She then emphasized that we should google info on steak colour if we are ignorant. Well, I have had enough steak in my life to appreciate a medium rare. Ok may be the colour is not as red but the taste is definitely more tough and more chewy. You can argue about the colour but not the texture I taste in my bites. Her attitude turned south as I said the taste is just not a medium rare steak. She said I will get you the kitchen manager to explain to you that Google is right. I just said forget it, we will just eat elsewhere. The food is just not good. We had fries bit in our onion rings and we have odd pieces of foreign objects in our Brussels sprouts side dish. We didn’t even mention those and the waitress face just as mean and upset as possible. At this point, I have the Keg written off from my favourite list of...
