My dad, brother, and I were in RMH for a hiking holiday around Nordegg and decided to come here for dinner our first night in. We've dined in many Japanese restaurants over the years including in Japan.
This place is a really nice gem. I had their shoyu ramen, Triple Parade maki, and salmon and California temaki (yeah yeah, no nigiri, I know). So first things first, yes Bang's has both sushi AND ramen! In the middle of rural Alberta! Second, I found their ramen quite good flavour wise - fairly creamy, the broth tasted correct, and the amount of pork and naruto was surprisingly adequate. Third, the rice in both the temaki and maki had a proper amount of sushi vinegar in it, which I personally find is what makes or breaks my experience of sushi, more than the fish topping.
We also had a plate of sashimi and while the salmon and toro pieces weren't thick at all (keep in mind this isn't Vancouver), they were large and obviously cut from a sizable filet. The green tea was genmaicha, which is light and non grainy like matcha, if you care about that.
The service was pretty good, our waitress was friendly.
I'm planning on hiking some more in Nordegg county (Siffleur Falls next time probably) and when I do go I will definitely...
Read moreAbout two weeks ago my hubby and I ordered takeout, and while we've normally had a good experience here they had changed their menu a bit, which I found out after calling with my order and realizing the one online was suddenly no longer relevant. They didn't have Japanese ramen or their delicious tteokbokki anymore, only a Korean ramen. I chose that one instead, to which the gentleman on the phone said "are you sure? It's complete different, nothing like Japanese ramen," sounding a bit judgemental. I've had Korean ramen before, so I reassured him that I was ok with ordering it. Once we had gotten home with our food it was very oddly bland, the ramen was a package, though very watered down, with bizarre looking pieces of flavourless boiled chicken. NOT Korean ramen 😅 The sushi was also quite bland, our local co-op does a better job. Considering the price, I'm really disappointed. I hope you guys are doing ok, this is really out of character! Best wishes, and I apologize, I just feel people...
Read moreIt's not cheap....but would you want your sushi fish that's being served in a small, rural town in a prairie province to be cheap? No, me neither, you're going to pay for freshness and sushi making skill that is mouthwatering and worth the price. Having this sushi restaurant in town has been a gift since it arrived. I've come to appreciate it even more since restaurants were forced into take out and delivery only options. The care that they put into the containers that hold the works of art is encouraging. And to experience the same top notch flavour with take out as you get from dining in is remarkable. My personal favorites to order: Tuna &/or Salmon sashimi Rainbow Roll Dynamite Roll Rocky Mountain Roll Mango Tango Roll Triple Parade Roll Big Bang Roll Assorted...
