Having traveled hours to stop in down home for a minute and help my father-in-law out for a day, we decided to take a break and come have supper. I'd traveled hours, not so much energy left for cooking. He'd hired me to travel hours, not so much energy to start with for cooking. "Let's go to Grillers for veal," he says. He's 80 so royalty like in my eyes and gets his choice, always. Away we go.
Me, I had French Onion soup in THE cutest little wrought iron Dutch oven. SO cute! Also so delicious! As delicious as it was cute and it was REALLY cute so that's saying a lot. But ... I digress. I'm not here to tell you about the veal (apparently it was lovely) nor even the soup. I am here to tell you about THE CHEESECAKE!!!!!!!!!
"It's house made," says our server, Jessica, also a TOTAL gem! "Topping of your choice."
My father-in-law looks at me, "One piece, two forks?" he asks me.
"Absolutely," I say, thinking I would ignore my dairy troubles for a fork full.
WELL! Forkful schmorkful! I'm SURE I ate 7/8th's of the HUGE piece!!!!!!!!!!
I forked spoonfuls of the strawberries over to my father-in-law's side of the plate. They're usually my favourite part. He looks at me funny
Me, a mouthful of fluffy, decadent cheesecake stuffed in my cheeks, "More schroom fo' schake!" I mumble around the sinfully precious dessert!
I've traveled the world, eaten many a cheesecake. Never ... NEVER ... homemade or otherwise, have I EVER eaten such amazing cheesecake! Go! Go...
Read moreI’ve always been a supporter of Grillers Steakhouse, often rating it 5 stars despite it being on the pricier side because the food was usually pretty good. However, my most recent visit was so disappointing that I doubt I’ll be returning anytime soon unless they come under new management or resolve the issues.
To start, the service was unbelievably poor. We were greeted by a server who said she would seat us after delivering a drink to another table. Instead, she took an order and took her time while we stood there waiting. We were in a rush and almost walked out right then, and in hindsight, we probably should have.
When she finally seated us, we quickly decided on one of the more expensive steaks, expecting it to be good. It took nearly an hour for our food to arrive. When it did, the portions were tiny, and the steak was not cooked to our specifications. On top of that, the server forgot our toast, leaving us with an unsatisfactory meal that wasn’t worth the high price.
The final straw was when my friend paid the bill in cash. There was a small amount of change left, and the server rudely asked if he wanted his change. My friend just shrugged it off and let her keep it, but the experience left a bad taste in our mouths.
The service was rude, the food was lousy, the portions were small, and the prices were exorbitant. Grillers Steakhouse is going downhill rapidly, and I can’t recommend it until these issues...

I hate leaving bad reviews, but this was BAD. We showed up at 10:30AM on a Sunday on our way home from camping in the mountains. We pulled in for breakfast and were sat down right away. We were ready to order, so when the waitress came to take our drink order we asked if we could order our food as well and she said no as there were two other tables putting orders in already.
To preface this, there were only 2 of us.
We never received our coffee, then another waitress came up and said “bad news guys, we can’t take your order as we have a table of 6 that just placed their order (this is at 10:45AM) and that will put our kitchen past 11 so we can’t take anymore orders. I suggest nicks diner across the street.”
I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years and have NEVER seen a display and excuse like this one. Absolutely pathetic to sell yourself as a “breakfast” place and not offer breakfast when the place gets a tad busy…
Get it together guys - you’re the only ones in town who offer breakfast before 11AM on a Sunday… you could do so well if you changed...
