Brady’s Fish and Chips — Restaurant in Saanich

I've been going to Brady's for years,. It's not the greatest but it's close by. Even though I've been coming here for years, I can always tell that the boss lady don't like me. I don't really care about that, but I like to be treated like a paying customer. I even had a cousin from out of town noticed the attitude towards me a few years ago.

Yesterday I went back for the first time in a few weeks. The last time there was a young lady who had served me, and she gaved me great service.... unlike yesterday with the boss lady. It was sooooo good and tasty and thought about calling in and telling them how much I enjoyed the food. I guess I should have, because maybe I'll get a better outcome 😕.

I was there like around 4 I'll say on June 20th on a Friday. I placed my order and waited outside in my car. Like I've said before I've always came here despite the attitude and such. So I always have gotten the same exact thing, the family meal every single time.....for years. Mind you the place wasn't busy at all, it was only me and one other customer who had picked up her order.

Usually when the order is ready, there'll asked me if I wanted anything on it like salt, malt vinegar, etc etc. This time when I can back in I was shocked to say the least 👀.

The order was already wrapped up and ready to go 😞. I said did you put anything on it at least? She didn't say anything, but the guy said "I'll add some packets for you". I was so shocked that I was lost for words. I've always wanted to have the salt and the malt vinegar to kinda settle into the food to say the least. But like I said I was shocked to say anything, so I just paid my food and left.

When I got home I was surprised and shocked and disappointed again with the food. First the portions were way smaller than usual. And the coleslaw seemed to be a little bit old by a few days. I was really, really dissatisfied with the treatment and food quality. And I've been coming here for years. Like I've said before.

I've always been very nice, and polite and respectful to the staff, but if this is your way of telling me to get loss, I...

On Sunday Sptember 3rd 2023 my mom wanted to treat me to Brady's. I bought Take out from Brady's a couple of weeks ago for my senior mom and I. Our first time trying there and we were both Impressed so this time I suggested we eat in the restaurant, what a giant mistake that was. We arrive there was only one table used rest were all empty. A nice lady said just sit where you like so we sat and the guy waiter was chatting to the only other customers in there and took there order, proceeded to walk past us. so we must have waited 10 minutes for him to bring us menu's. My mom went up to the front for the menu's she was told to go sit down he will bring them. We promptly ordered and he left without asking us about beverages. So my mom goes back up to the front and he was busy talking to a customer waiting for take out, my mom said she had to interrupt to get his attention. I said from around the corner could I please have ice water with a lemon wedge. He said we do not have lemons. I said oh what a fish and chip store with no lemons. Well he lost his mind and with my mom still at the front he ordered her to leave the restaurant he decided we would not be served. He told me I was rude. So as I followed my mom to leave I stopped and said I was not rude and then he started swearing at me and I said oh but its okay to swear and left. My mom was so shaken and upset. She said in her entire life she has never been kicked out of a restaurant. It ruined our visit and the rest...

I have tried. I love fish and chips and have had them all over the place in Canada - coast to coast the States and England.

Brady's is awfully close. I have been there a few times. The first the fish was not cooked properly ... the chips were great. The next few times the same chips were great the fish no, I kept saying it is a one-off…

On the fish there is a criso outer layer of batter and the fish is erm …ok? Not great but ok. But everytime so far there was a layer of glop. Possibly uncooked batter or moisture from the fish causing that. I am a no chef but I know what I like. Is the fish frozen and the thawing causes this layer of paste?

Sadly the last time a week ago - because I have tried to like this place I love little mom and pop restaurants - and I am not a complainer … but not only was the fish yeat again not great in a layer of uncooked batter… but the fries were dreadful.

Soff tasteless and not really that hot?

So sorry guys … I have given up. It as been consistently bad over a few years as far as the fish goes and now the chips...
