The new Davis, well, it's a much different vibe than it was back when it was more of a rough around the edges brewery, that you could kick back, and play a board game, or enjoy a night of bingo. It's now more restaurant than brewery, and kicking back might be a bit tough with the high tables and chairs, and the darkness of the interior. With the refinement it also left the place with no live events on the calendar, leaving that to the Refined Fool location out on London Road. It seems a little backwards as people now have to drive out to see live stuff since the London Road location is not near residential areas really, and people now have to drive back home after drinking(which in reality will be the case instead of taking transit), instead of the downtown location, near residential locations where people can mostly walk...but maybe I am missing something...I'm not a business expert. As well, with the refinement at Davis, whole new offerings including the food menu and cocktails have arrived, and you will not be disappointed. The food is pretty epic with dishes like goreng, and oyster po'boys. I have to say, WOW, our meals here were spectacular, and the cocktails were very well done. The outside patio is really nice now, and dogs are still welcome, so I can say that I will be coming back regularly during the...
Read moreYesterday my husband and I took a trip from Waterloo, ON to do some over the border shopping (total fail in Port Huron) but our main goal was to visit Refined Fool Brewing. We’ve been fans of their beers for a few years (annd love their inventive beer names) and we’re happy to have finally make it there.
We are dark beer lovers and were thrilled to see they had several dark beer options.
We were given a sample of their chocolate mint beer (delish and dark!) and my husband had a glass of A Can Full of Weirdos Juicy IPA. I had a flight (Ripsnorter Vanilla Bourbon Porter, Joe Sent Me Milk Stout, Brouhaha Nut Brown and the lighter Help Yourself To My Parents’ Wardrobe Raspberry & Vanilla Smoothie IPA. All were really good but my favourites surprised me - the smoothie IPA and the amazing vanilla bourbon porter (the bourbon isn’t overpowering but adds a delicious darker layer).
My only wee issue was the yellow tinted overhead lighting. It was a dreary, rainy day but I found it a bit too dark inside even with the lights on.
Thanks to the female bartender for the great service and showing us the cans so we could bring some home.
We will definitely make the trip back to Sarnia for their beer and to...
Read moreRead moreIt didn’t take more than moment on Google Reviews to pick my dinner spot the other night - Davis Craft Brewery Restaurant by Refined Fool Brewing Company in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. I booked on OpenTable and arrived early after parking for free on the street. Hip vibe from entry to seating with an attentive welcome and staff teaming on all the tables. Fresh flowers on my table I started with the Tiger Lily feature cocktail - perfect for summer and just what I needed after a long day to chill out even more. The ceiling designs and wood are mesmerizing and calming. I couldn’t resist a “Todd is an Absolute Beauty” Pale Ale hinting to some of the Australian flavour and folklore design and mentions throughout. The crafted beer menu is extensive for this size of brewery and includes a cider so there is something for everyone. I settled on the Korean Beef Tacos (ground beef style) with the panko encrusted sweet potato strips. Both fantastic and the strips were more sliced round sweet potato chips and tasted like Japanese tempura but the batter was tight to the chips. Can’t wait to go back and try the skewers and another beer style...
