Backwater Coffee Co. is hands down one of the best coffee spots I’ve ever visited. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is warm, welcoming, and cozy — the kind of place where you instantly feel at home. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do. The coffee? Next level. Every cup is rich, smooth, and brewed to perfection — you can really taste the care that goes into every roast. I tried an iced skinny vanilla oat latte and a date square - they were incredible. Their pastries and snacks are so fresh and delicious — perfect for pairing with a good book or a work session. If you’re in the area (or even if you’re not), Backwater Coffee Co. is worth the trip. It’s more than just a coffee shop — it’s a community hub, a creative space, and a caffeine lover’s dream. Can’t recommend it enough!

Blackwater Coffee is absolutely amazing! The owners are incredible and truly go above and beyond for both their customers and the local community. They’re always supporting other local businesses and even created a special branded Dream Home coffee for us this year, which was such a thoughtful touch! Their space is warm, welcoming, and collaborative, I love popping in to chat with the staff and customers. The atmosphere is always so positive and genuine. And of course, I can’t forget to mention how good their coffee is! They take their craft and roasting process seriously, and it shows in every cup. I love this business and everyone involved. Sarnia is lucky to have them!

Stopped in and tried both the mocha latte and cappuccino—absolutely fantastic! The mocha latte had just the right balance of chocolate and espresso, rich but not too sweet. The cappuccino was perfectly crafted, with smooth foam and bold flavor that shows they really care about their coffee. The café itself has such a cozy, welcoming vibe, and the staff were super friendly. If you’re visiting Sarnia, this is definitely a must-visit spot!

Not sure how many stars to give here. I had THE BEST cappuccino of Sarnia with THE WORST brownie I ever had.

I love coffee, so I'm keeping 4-stars at this time. I'll be back to try something else to eat. Hopefully, it was just a bad choice today.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for reaching out to me. We were at Sarnia's location. There are a few reasons why we did not like the brownie:

Over sweet It was dry, maybe/probably old. There was a crost of sugary/fat chocolate on top that is extremely sweet. There was an extra liquid chocolate put on top that is also very sweet. It was very hard, difficult to cut or eat. The sign said it would have expresso on it but it didn't seems like. It was extremely overpriced for the quality displayed.

I hope it has helped you to understand my point regarding the brownie. Thank you for...

Everybody wants you to go here. But I think it's a little overrated. I find the coffee is quite bitter, the store itself is too crammed, especially for how many customers they have to serve. They try to fix this by putting a couple tables outside when the weather permits, but it's still an anxiety inducing experience when you're trying to get your caffiene hit and there's constant noise pollution. I guess they did the best thing they could to mitigate this by making a second location near the college, but it really didn't work because people go for the atmosphere and the downtown location. For me though, the atmosphere is the main thing I'm trying to avoid because it's very crowded and loud. Prices are a tad high for the medium quality, probably more due to demand. I get why it's 5 stars for some people....
