Cromwell Grill — Restaurant in Sarnia

Whenever I want to go out to eat I choose Cromwell Grill because the food is reasonably priced with large portions and delicious. And a wide variety to choose from. The service however is not good. Every time I go there the waitresses are rude, and they don't attend to your needs. For example today i went there with a friend. My friend had asked for two menu's because i am in the bathroom and will be back. The waitress puts down only one menu. And when i returned to the table she did not give me a menu. Gives us dirty plastic cups of water and our cutlery. And then asks us what we want to order. I asked her if I could have a burger with everything on it and (extra pickles) along with a poutine. She did not ask me if I wanted anything else and was rushing my friend to order. My friend orders a breakfast combo with (eggs well done). When the food was rushed to our table, the waitress takes off as fast as possible avoiding any questions or requests. My friend's eggs were runny not well done, and i didn't get any pickles. Asking the waitress as she's running off down the isle if i could have pickles. I had to ask her twice she pretended not to hear me the first time. She responded very rudely with the tone of her voice scrunching her face saying "Pickles!??" With a long awkward silence she hesitantly said okay I will get you some pickles. Brings me a plate with one small end piece of a sliced pickle. Saying here is your one pickle 🤣👏. I was halfway done my burger by the time I got the pickle. I wanted extra pickles on my burger like i had ordered. I didn't care if there was an extra cost. My friend was too afraid to even ask in regards to her runny eggs 🤣👏. We also needed napkins, and managed to get through the meal with using the same napkin 7 or 8 times. That napkin looked so dirty, i was looking for a clean spot to wipe my mouth from the messy burger 🤣👏. Wasn't even that busy, just the waitress was moving quickly avoiding people's requests around the room 🤣. It's always like this when I go there, It doesn't matter what waitress neither. I'm always leaving there with a bad feeling about the service. But the food is so good, I keep coming back from time to time. Lol . I only wish the waitresses would listen more carefully to the customers needs when taking the orders. And ask us if we would like anything else. And come and check up on us at least twice during our meal; Just in case we might want something more. Maybe a dessert menu as well at then end of the meal. It would be nice to feel like I'm having an experience rather than...

My husband has been here for breakfast and enjoyed it. So he wanted to take me there but it was late lunchtime. We were not impressed with our lunch. My husband had the fish and chips ( btw the fries are quite good) But he was not impressed with the fish... he's had better. I had the butterfly shrimp and it was ok. It came with soup or salad (I had a salad)a roll ( which was about 1.5" x 1.5" in size) fries, veg (canned corn) and dessert...all puddings or ice cream...I chose trifle it was good...I took it home to eat. Now...when we arrived my husband went to wash his hands so when the server came she gave us water and I said he'd be right back. So she said she'd wait till he came back to tell us the specials. We sat there unserved for close to 15 min...the head server came by as I had put the menus on the end of the table...she asked if our order had been taken. No. She took the menus and said she'd be right back. Then preceded to ask all the other servers (5 total) who had table 3. I think she should have done this in private...but it was very public. No one owned up to it but it was the server at the cash who came to our table first. After that the head server served us and the service was good. We will go here again for breakfast but not...

This dining experience was meant to be a quick in and out breakfast as our group was on night shift. First off, our meal from start to finish took 2 hours. For breakfast. Our server was an older lady that wasn't overly inviting or kind, and didn't seem eager to bring us anything we ordered. I was told specifically that I could not have scrambled eggs mixed with egg whites. After the inconvenience of us even being there ended, I still tipped generously (30%) after a drastically lower than average quality of meal and service experience, to continue to be treated poorly by our server. I no longer live in Sarnia, but was born here, and my entire family lives here. And after years of this establishment being a staple in the downtown Sarnia district, I am sad to say I will never. Ever. Return. I have nearly a decade in the service industry and couldn't fathom treating guests in this manner. Although that meal took so long that it reduced my 7.5 hour sleep to 5 hours, I still considered it important to share this review.
