What an amazing experience we had! From the second we walked in the door the host, the server, the food etc. we were treated like royalty. This is our first time at Chop. We had read the menu, as there was a location in the hotel we were staying at. We decided we would give them a try on our first night as we were both tired and didn't want to go far for dinner (we were also hungry) We were greeted by the host, asked about our knowledge of Chop. The server appeared very quickly and asked about our knowledge of the restaurant, she quickly described the specialties, how they were purchased, cooked and served. She offered us drinks and left to allow us time to look. Upon her return, with our drinks, she asked us if we had any questions, she told us about specials and asked us if we required more time. We both said we were ready and ordered our food. The starters came quickly, I had the French onion soup and my husband had the wedge salad. The food looked and tasted delicious. Shortly after our main course arrived, we had the prime rib, it was described to us as an excellent choice, tender and well cooked, they were right about all three. The meat was perfectly cooked, cut with a btter knife and tasted amazing. I would personally go so far as to say that it was the best I have ever eaten. It was served with au just, wilted spinach, fresh beets and baked potato. WOW! It was a feast for the eyes and stomach. The server returned a couple of times to check on us. The manager from the kitchen dropped over to thank us for coming and the great feedback on the food. Believe me the service was no slouch either. We were given a complimentary ticket for an appetizer when we return. We were offered dessert, they all sounded amazing and I liked that there were options on the size of them, but we were both very full. We will certainly be back to enjoy the appetizer, another delicious meal and this time we will save space for a small dessert to share 😀 As a critic and world traveler, I highly recommend this restaurant and will try our BC location at some time. I am off now to make my post on Google maps and TripAdvisor. Thank you for the great service and experience

The experience of dining here was at all times, the highest quality. The host was prompt and asked us which location (dining room, lounge or patio) we would like to dine in. And a hostess who seated us, was sweet, and offered kind words regarding my wardrobe. We were left with a few minutes to paruse the menu to decide on drinks, when our waiter arrived. He politely introduced himself and asked if we were celebrating any occasion this evening. We were. Our 15th wedding anniversary. He congratulated us and immediately offered us complimentary glasses of champagne, or if we preferred, a dessert at the end of our meal. I loved the options, My husband doesn't drink, so we opted for dessert following our meal. He explained D the house specials and asked if we would like to order drinks, I ordered a cocktail and he left us to pursue the menu some more. We decided to order an Appetizer of Onion Rings to start and ordered steak dinners both. The onion rings were very prompt, not 5 minutes went by before they arrived, hot and absolutely crunchy. The basil dip was pleasantly surprising, a little went a long way, and the portion size of the rings was impressive. Would definitely order again. Our meals were exactly as ordered, done to our preferred medium-rare. The portion size was more than enough following out appetizer. My husband left some. Of his sides as he was full and we still planned on dessert. We opted for Creme Brulee, which was exactly the way you'd expect. The plate had an additional congrats in chocolate spelt out, and the waiter included a lovely card signed by the staff congratulating us on our anniversary. They included a small business size card for a complimentary Mushroom and Goat Cheese dip for our next visit. Server was always present, filling our water glasses when near empty, and asking if our food was ok, or steaks done to our desired likeness. Our first experience was absolutely great, exactly what you'd want a new experience to be. We will be back

Attended CHOP for anniversary dinner. Made reservation online at which time I noted it was for an anniversary and advised of gluten/dairy allergies. We arrived a bit early. The hostess confirmed our reservation and didn't say my name correctly. This is fine, it happens all of the time and I genuinely get a kick out of people pronouncing it. I smiled at her and said it correctly and we had a giggle together. Another hostess wearing all black with darker thick rimmed glasses gave me a hard stare and disapproving raised eyebrows, which was a tad off-putting. We proceed to the table and our server was Nick. Nick was very attentive and a fantastic server. I advised again of the gluten and dairy allergy. Nick assured this would not be an issue. We ordered drinks from the bar. Mine came with a paper straw. Celiacs and those in the service industry who are knowledgeable, understand why this is a problem. I took maybe 2 sips of my drink and my stomach starts churning. I did not drink my drink. I ordered a medium rare top sirloin and opted for steamed broccolini. The steak came. It was well done and the broccolini was cold. I showed Nick who was very apologetic and offered to replace it. I told him not to worry as he was not responsible for cooking the steak, and advised I didn't want to be a pain and I would eat what was brought to the table. We ate quickly and Nick offered us a dessert. But by this time the meal was so bad we opted to leave. Nick did bring us a coupon for a free steak. This was really nice however this was our second time at CHOP and it will be our last as our first experience was terrible as well. For the same price point, the Keg nails it everytime. This was us giving CHOP another go, but we will not bother to go again. Our server Nick was the only good thing about the experience. I took a photo of the "medium rare" steak.

Also, after my edited review I noticed an immediate reply thanking me for my 5 star review (I forgot to reduce the stars during my edit) which tells me the replies are just auto generated. Not personal service at all!!! Another reason not to return.

Update: Shortly after this review we visited Chop during happy hour. We ordered drinks, an appetizer and eventually dinner. When we were provided with the bill we noticed we were charged full price for the drinks. The server made a correction and returned with the new amount and although the drinks were now discounted, the appetizer was still full price. When we pointed out the error the server looked highly annoyed. He probably thought we were being cheap which is completely inaccurate. We have no problem paying the correct amount which I might add is getting to be excessive for what you get. Mistakes happen and we were willing to overlook this instance however a couple of visits later we ordered a beverage and if there were even a drop of alcohol in there we couldn't tell. I have to say their cocktails always seemed watered down but because the overall experience was good we overlooked that part of the experience. Given our prior bad experience I complained and although the server that took the complaint was very pleasant about it, the server who brought the newly mixed cocktail (same server as the first unpleasant experience), walked towards me refusing to make eye contact and as he approached, turned completely sideways, set the drink down and walked away. I might add the second drink still had no alcohol in it. That was enough to make us leave but on the way out I spoke with the manager. He seemed to have a genuine concern regarding our experiences and gave us a $50 gift card as compensation. Numerous times we have talked about returning to use the gift card and see if things have improved but we can't bring ourselves to return, gift card or not. The prices being charged do not justify attitude and being ignored. Attitude is available most anywhere free of charge and I'm certainly not going to pay hard earned money for it. I can name two quality restaurants in Saskatoon that charge close the the same amount for cocktails and it is easy to tell you are at least getting what you pay for. One final mention, we like to sit at the bar not in the restaurant as it generally has a better atmosphere however most visits the bartenders would never even make eye contact nor engage in conversation even though we were sitting right in front of them. On a couple of occasions they did initiate conversation and I can say that certainly contributed positively to the experience. My opinion is as a staff member in that position it should be your job to engage with customers, happy customers eat more and drink more. Being ignored is a sure ticket to no return.

This is currently our favourite place to dine. We love sitting at the bar, great atmosphere and when the bartenders aren’t crazy busy, chatting it up with them. Makes everything much more enjoyable and personable. Great drinks and the food has always been tops! Would be great to see just a few extra food choices on the menu, not a complaint just a wish. When you’re a regular you wear out the menu kind of quickly😉. Was at a similar restaurant I won’t mention recently in Lawson and that was a rather grungy experience in comparison so Chops rules! Keep up the good work!! Fyi, no restaurant is perfect all the time but great service can override a lot of not so perfect things. One night our margaritas tasted more like vodka and tonic than tequila and lime. Next time we came, the server remembered and made the drinks herself! Things happen but if you correct things the proper way, the customer will forgive and come back!!...
