This Happened on April 28,2025 at almost 10pm till closing time (11pm).
My friends and I went in at 10pm to chill and have some good drinks and we chose Filosophi since this place has been a friendly place for us everytime we visit. For some reason, I know there's 1 hr left before closing, my 2 friends came in first and I was the one who came in at exact 10pm. The server at the lobby wasn't smiling at me, she was giving me a blank straight 'seriously' face. I was shocked, and scared. It looked like I was a burden to even come 1 hour before closing. No hi or smile whatever, she just waited for me to talk and I said, "I'll take pictures of the cakes before I go upstairs. I'm with 2 other girls." She said ok. Then instead of accomodating me, she went straight ahead on entrance and probably locked it up so no one would come in. I felt bad. I went upstairs and there were still 3 others on other table aside from my friends and I. When I went to the second floor where my friends were sitting, the server lady on second floor, I don't know what she's going through as well, or what is everyone's going through that time but the level of friendliness has gone down, instead of feeling welcomed by servers, we felt like we didn't belong there. Like we shouldn't have come. My friends and I are already having conversations of how awful the service was and that we should just go. But it was too late, since we ordered calamari already and ordered 2 non alcoholic drinks and 1 pink sky drink. Overall, the server on second floor became nice and sweet when it's near 11pm- closing time, time when we leave and pay. I get it maybe she was hoping for a great tip that's why she became nice. My friend paid for them all, my friend was even so nice to even give 15% tip despite the unfriendly experience. Lesson learned, don't come 1 hr before closing. Staffs are annoyed and will make you feel bad. I couldn't even bare to look at them and ask for their name or look at their name tag if they even had one, as that's how scary and unfriendly they were.
I love Filosophi since 2023 but I think it's staffs needs to do better. Specifically the 2 server women working. Where did the...
Read moreYesterday evening, I went to Filosophi with a friend for dinner and ordered a mocktail from their âzero-proofâ menu. My friend ordered a bottle of wine with one glass.
Our drinks arrived, and we proceeded to order food. When the server checked in on us, she asked if Iâd like another drink. I decided to try a different mocktail from the same zero-proof menu and pointed to it. She hesitated, seeming unsure, and asked âwas that one supposed to be alcohol-free?â And pointed to my empty glass on the table. I said, âyes, why? was it not?â She said it wasnât, apologized 2-3x and brought me a different drink.
As someone who is 100% sober, I wasâand still amâ pretty upset about this but of course was trying to shake it off in the moment as I could tell the server felt bad. But maintaining sobriety is a personal and important commitment to me.
Later, the server informed us she was finishing her shift and asked us to settle the bill. After paying, my friend and I stayed a bit longer to chat. When we eventually left, I reviewed my bill again and noticed I had been charged full price ($14) for the alcohol drink + liquor tax.
I decided to speak to a manager on my way out, as we were not paid a visit by one at all through out the night after the mistake. A server brought someone who appeared to be the owner. After briefly hearing my explanation, he glanced at the bill and continued to call it a âlearning experienceâ for his staff and did not acknowledge the seriousness of it at all. Instructed the staff to hand him $10 from the till for me, and sent me on my wayâwhich doesnât even cover the cost of the drink after all haha like what a joke. He seemed more concerned about whether my friendâs wine bottle was properly corked than addressing my complaint.
The interaction with the owner felt dismissive and humiliating. I probably would have been better off not confronting him at all. It wasnât about the $10âit was about the seriousness of serving alcohol to someone who explicitly ordered a non-alcoholic drink and acknowledging it, when sobriety is important to them.
Do better, filosophi. Safe to say I will not be...
Read moreI want to give a 5 star, but there are a couple things that need a bit of work. But first I want to start off by saying the food is really delicious. It is all homemade and you can tell the quality of the ingredients is fresh. Our burgers were juicy, fries were crisp but not over cooked, the lasagna was hearty and flavourful. And the atmosphere is so nice with really great decor, itâs elegant without feeling too fancy.
My husband and I both got The Night Owl, my brother got the Lasagna Al Forno, and my mom got the Wise B&M Burger. The only critique I have about the food is that The Night Owl burger is supposed to have bacon jam on it, which was why we got it (thatâs a unique ingredient), but we couldnât taste it at all. When I looked through the burger I wasnât even sure if I was seeing bacon jam. Maybe they need to make the bacon pieces bigger, because Iâve had bacon jam before and it was super flavourful with a bit of sweetness. Their signature sauce on the burger is also quite flavourful, so that may be why. Either way, it was still a delicious burger, just wanted more bacon jam flavour. The owner greeted us at the door as we were leaving and we told him about our one food critique and he was happy to hear it. He said he wants his restaurant to always be getting better, which is an amazing quality is a restaurateur.
My other critique is that, once our food was served, our server didnât once come and ask us how the food was, ask if we needed anything else, or to check on us. She gave us a water pitcher but we went through that quite quickly with four people, so we couldâve used more water. I had to ask another server to bring our cheque because it had been a while and our server just didnât return after clearing our empty plates.
These are minor things, but I am a really great cook, so when I go out and pay more money than I would making a delicious meal at home I would really like to taste the interesting ingredients and have amazing service where the server is making sure we are having a...
