Where do I begin?
Shall I mention the hand-picked, carefully seasoned and aged cuts of meat, or the picked-that-morning freshness of the vegetables? Shall I wax poetic about the crisp delight that is the pommes frites, the knowledgeable sommaliers (a delight, without question. The wine cellar alone is reason enough to visit this place weekly) or the friendly and unobtrusive servers?
I had the beef. As mentioned, the quality of the cut was beyond compare, but the real stars of the entree were the fresh organic lettuce, craft-made American cheese and pickles that tasted like my mum had fished ;em out of the jar at home. The artisanal sesame-seed roll fresh-made that month was only mildly spongey, setting the perfect backdrop for that special sauce. What's in that concoction? I'll tell you. Culinary magic.
The accompanying pommes frites paired well with the 2015 Coca-Cola Cellars Black Champagne, and the whole meal was set off by the apple pie, also like mum used to fish out of the jar at home.
My dining companions had the house salad and breaded medallions of chicken, respectively, without complaint. Evidently, the medallions were 'nummy', and the pommes frites that accompanied them disappeared with alacrity.
In all, this is a nice, out-of-the-way spot with tons of ambience and a hand-crafted feel that you'd expect to find somewhere more cosmopolitan... one of those 'locals-only' spots you'll stumble into now and again, and never forget.
I will...
Read moreThis is a decent McDonald's location.
They still tend to serve in order of first come, first served, which means those who just want a coffee have to wait for those with large meals and multiple item orders if they arrived first.
It boggles my mind that instead of staff standing idly waiting on food to be cooked and processed that they are not permitted to clear out only the beverage orders.
This would clear up the backlog and log jam of folks stuck waiting for a simple beverage order.
Why McDonald's trains their staff as they do is beyond my scope of comprehension.
Get the fast orders out of the way first while waiting on larger orders to be prepared.
It is not rocket science.
Also, why is it that staff who prepare food are not required to wear disposable gloves and hairnets?!
This is shocking to one who has worked in the hospitality industry and who is married to a now retired chef.
When I witnessed a line cook picking up food with ungloved hands, it made my stomach churn.
Bacteria and viruses aside, it is gross.
The above comments apply to most McDonald's that I go to - which is why I try to stay with just ordering coffee.

All of them seem to have this same peculiar way of training their staff.
Like I said -...
Read moreJune 27, 3024 Mistakes are still happening. Today, not only was the drive-through order wrong, but the incorrect sandwich itself was cold, slimy falling apart AND had hair in it. I threw it away. 🤮
October 30/2021 - An update to the review below: Since posting this review, service has not improved. The drive-thru attendant handed me our order and once again items I paid for are missing and there was no receipt in the bag. The drive-thru wasn’t even busy. Drive through orders are regularly screwed up. I speak very clearly but when my order is inputted the screen keeps displaying and removing items as I speak. When I correct what is shown on the screen the attendant gets it wrong and I don’t find out until I get to the pick up window. Today they missed an iced tea which they did supply at no cost, but when I opened the bag, an order of fries was missing. I checked my receipt and the second order of fries was never included so I didn’t pay for something I didn’t receive. This type of thing happens too often. Also, the exit to Goderich St. is awkward and it's only a matter of time before an...
