Update: came here with my dad yesterday.
It seems like things did not change. While the environment is clean and staff is polite enough it’s hard to flag them down for any extras if you need forks or sauces as sides. They’re busy, sure but the restaurant wasn’t packed and it lacked availability for eye contact. While I understand it’s all you can eat- the quality seems to reflect a price saving mindset. We ordered enoki beef rolls and the onion rolls and there was barely any beef to speak of wrapping the veggies. I’ll attach a photo. It also doesn’t specify in the menu that when you select you’re only getting one item- so I ordered shrimp tempura and was given ONE at a table or two. We did re order more but it seems as though it would be obvious to make it a double serving as a baseline?
They have a high rice ratio and smaller filling ratio. The hand rolls were basically just rice. I found they skimped a lot which was not fun, especially since it was a seventy dollar meal for two. We’re paying for it. Sure, serve small bits a a time but skimping will not tempt me to return for mediocre quality sushi to begin with. It’s unfortunate this is the only location.
Also on our arrival many of the empty tables were still dirty with crumbs all over. It wasn’t so busy they could not keep up. This just dampened the experience.
Came here for lunch. We arrived when they opened at 1130 am. We ordered. They were very slow to pick up our orders even though there was maybe four tables total. We didn’t start getting food until around 1245. The food quality is the same- decent reliable sushi. But they took forever. By the time we were ready to pay at 150 pm they were bringing out items they hadn’t brought us yet that we had forgot about. People were lined up like crazy to get in, very disorganized not enough staff ? I don’t know. It was pretty awful. Only good part is we got to socialize for longer than planned. Maybe it’ll improve once they get into the...
Read moreMy family is visiting from out of town and after a long day traveling chose to have dinner at ShoGun for the first time. We were greeted politely and offered the all you can eat sushi menu or the á la carte’ menu. My husband and son had the all you can eat option and their food arrived quickly and was fresh and flavorful. I have health problems and a very strict diet that limits what I can eat (Hashimoto’s and MCAS) I was prepared to not eat anything at the restaurant and instead eat a home made ‘safe’ meal afterwards but my server was absolutely amazing and went above and beyond to find something for me by checking the ingredients and cooking methods of multiple options for me. She made sure that there wasn’t cross contamination and double checked that the rice was gluten free and without vinegar. I ended up having some sashimi and rice and was thrilled to join my family and felt safe while eating. My servers name was Ami, and she was absolutely fantastic!!! I have never felt so welcomed, understood and safe while eating out and was truly taken care of! Not only was she fabulous with my health requirements but she was charismatic, knowledgeable and easy to relate to. She engaged with my son and made sure our drinks were full and the food was what we wanted. At one point I overheard her speaking to another couple about a trip and road closures and was helping them with directions. You can tell that Ami truly puts care and thoughtfulness into everything she does. ShoGun is lucky to have her on their...
Read moreShogun sushi was a very pleasant place to enjoy Asian cuisine.
I came on a Saturday night in a group of four. In my group I was the only person participating in the all-you-can-eat experience and I was very happy with my experience.
Typically I avoid Asian restaurants as I am someone who is not a big fan of rice and noodles which limits my palate significantly but there were menu options that worked for me in spite of that. I also went out of my comfort zone to try some sushi and even though I can confidently say I do not like salmon, the portions were small enough to finish the dish anyways to avoid being charged for waste. I highly recommend this place for anyone willing to dip their toes into different foods without wanting to commit to ordering a full dish.
For those who would rather not participate in the all-you-can-eat element of Shogun Sushi, the other members of my group were very happy with their portion sizes for the price. Everyone brought home leftovers (excluding me).
The only criticism I have is that I was not informed in advance when the kitchen shut down. I was finishing up at that time so it didn’t inconvenience me but I would’ve still preferred if there was a “last call” incase I wanted to put in some last minute dishes.
All in all I would go back if I ever found myself in...
