Hadn’t been to the boiler room since it opened. We were craving pizza after a full day of golf so we figured why not try it out ?
I will say I had some hesitations going into it. The sault is known for its Italian food & quality. This includes pizza. It’s hard to want to go to a non Italian joint for Italian food. This is a note of caution.
the night we went they seemed to be short staffed with only one server and a pretty busy restaurant. It took a bit for us to be seated (no wait in front of us).
The menu has some decent options but it’s not massive by any means.
We started with the deep fried cheese curds. These were and still are the winner. Something about the breading seasoning and their marinara just took it home for us. Perfect crunch, perfect coating. Highly recommend.
My partner got the calzone, I got a margarita pizza.
My partner didn’t mind his meal but he didn’t LOVE it. The portion was massive (not a bad thing) but the amount of cheese inside was sickening. He needed to pull cheese out with the fork because it was hard to get through. It also seemed a lot larger than a twelve inch pizza made into a calzone.
My pizza? It was decent. The flavours were consistent with margherita pizzas I’ve had in the past. What I didn’t like was how thin the crust was. I like a bit more meat on the bone, if you will. The burnt pieces and the wood fires was tasty though I will say.
The environment. Is cool. Unique. In the old boiler room of the pulp mill (hence the name). It’s a pretty small place though so I can see it being busy and hectic.
The server was super kind, despite not being able to be as present due to the workload.
Honestly? Not the place for to-die-for pizza in the Sault. Not the worst, but this wouldn’t be where I see myself heading in the...
Read moreToday during lunch I brought two friends from out of town to your restaurant. I have frequented the boiler room various times and have hosted business meetings and after work get together at the restaurant numerous times. Always great food and awesome service! Today’s lunch was extremely disappointing. We arrived shortly before a large family of about 8. We were the only ones in there along side two servers. A female server was quick to take our order. My friend ordered the chicken sandwich and received it quickly we were told our two pizzas would be out shortly. We watched the table of 8 (which all had pizza ordered after us) finish their entire meal and pay their bill well we waited over half an hour for our two pizzas. When my friend was done her sandwich our pizzas finally arrived. Mine had black olives instead green. The waitress admitted her mistake and stated she would fix it. I waited 20 minutes for a new pizza to come out the new pizza had barley half a handful of olives and did not taste good at all. When I explained the waitress my disappointment with the meal she questioned if I had eaten their pizza before. I stated I have eaten the exact same pizza numerous times and she offered up a that’s too bad attitude. After an hour and a half wait, I ate my disgusting pizza out of pure hunger (which suspect they didn’t add all types of cheese to) and left with no apology and paid the complete bill. Then I headed to the gelato shop to fill myself up instead. I would love to continue eating at the boiler room but after this experience I am not sure if I will be recommending it or eating there...
Read moreAlright so first off let's focus on the positives, good location with easy parking and a great looking space.
The rustic theme appropriate one stop food vibe and the complex is great. Alittle confusing since the boiler room is tucked in the middle of it but forgivable.
Good sized tables with lots of room to pick your preference and size. Easily sit six people at the large tables, no chair shuffle required.
First visit was so so so been awhile since they opened and wanted to give them another shot before reviewing as I commonly do.
Sadly no improvement, staff though friendly take twenty to thirty minutes to acknowledge you exist even at less then a half house. Food is slow taking forty minutes after ordering.
They have some of the best equipment around but the execution is poor. Not sure if it's a bad recipe or just poor training. Pizza is often either undercooked or so greasy its a mess. I believe the equipment is not being cleaned properly as my food bottom was gritty and covered in charcoal from other pizzas. The crust is lacking any flavor and overworked. The sauce is good, nice spice to it but the rest of the ingredients have the taste of canned food and poorly executed.
In short there is potential here, lots of it. They need to really...
