Le Trou du Diable - Brewpub & Restaurant — Restaurant in Shawinigan

You haven't really visited Shawinigan if you haven't been to the famous award-winning BrewPub Brasserie Artisanale: Trou du Diable.

Great ambiance, wonderful staff, and (no exaggeration) hands down they have the best beers in Canada! What more can you ask for?!

For beers, my husband and I both love stouts, so we had to have "Le Sang d'Encre." In all honesty, we love it!!! C'était incroyable!!! We loved it so much that we wished we could buy some and bring it home. But unfortunately, they didn't have it ready in bottles there. We'd have to go and purchase it at their micro-brasserie/boutique next time. It is located not far from the BrewPub.

Moreover, we even tried the food while we're there. My husband had the Sauté de cerf (sauteed deer meat), and I had the Bucatini avec crevettes d'Argentine (Bucatini pasta with Argentinian prawns).

My husband absolutely loved his sauté de cerf. He said that the deer meat was excellent, tender, and not at all gamy. It had a unique combination of Korean flavors that was well executed. 👍👍

However, I wish I could say the same for my Bucatini. I am usually a huge fan of pasta, and this is my first time trying out this dish. Personally, I thought the capers were overbearing, and there was too much olive oil in the dish. Now, on the contrary, I don't know the rule of thumb for the number of serving prawns on a plate, but it definitely was not enough. 😅 Would I order this dish again? Perhaps not. But, I will try something different next time when we come and visit them again.

Overall, we still had a great experience at the Trou du Diable. We will come back for more and also recommend it to our family and friends.

Mon conjoint et moi sommes partis de Trois-Rivières afin de découvrir cette populaire microbrasserie de Shawinigan. Dès notre arrivée, nous nous sommes fait accueillir et placer par une gentille hôtesse proche des fenêtres, ce qui était parfait vu la magnifique température. L'ambiance était agréable et la décoration était belle. Avant même d'avoir enlevé nos manteaux, notre serveur Steve est venu se présenter et nous a demandé si nous étions prêt à commander. N'ayant pas eu le temps d'ouvrir le menu, ce dernier nous expliqua que nous devions être partis pour 18h45, puisque la table était réservée et il s'empressa d'aller parler avec d'autres clients. Après avoir consulté le menu, nous avons essayé d'attirer son attention à de multiples reprises, mais Steve ne portait aucune attention à notre table. Nous avons donc été obligé de déranger l'hôtesse pour enfin donner notre commande. Cette dernière fut efficace et nous avons reçu notre plateau de dégustation de bières très rapidement. Les bières que nous avons reçues étaient bonnes et rafraîchissantes. Quelques minutes plus tard, Steve est venu nous voir pour finalement remarquer que nous avions déjà été servis. Celui-ci ne prit même pas la peine de nous demander si nous voulions autres choses et repartit. Après avoir terminé nos consommations, nous avions en tête de commander autres chose, mais Steve arriva pour nous aviser que notre temps était écoulé, et ce, sans nous proposer une autre place (d'autres tables étaient disponibles dans le restaurant). Nous avons vraiment senti que ce dernier désirait notre départ, ce qui n'est pas normal. Heureusement, nous avons du vin à la maison.

Bref, malgré une belle microbrasserie et des bières succulentes, nous avons été déçus de l'expérience en général, puisque notre serveur ne semblait porter aucune importance à la qualité de son service. Ainsi, nous avons fait presqu'une heure de déplacement pour consommer l'équivalent d'une pinte à deux. Décevant....

We had the most wonderful experience here! Our server (I’m so sorry I didn’t catch his name but he was serving the patio tonight and had blonde hair in a bun) was so kind and attentive. He let us practice our French and was so accommodating, patient, and welcoming. The food was absolutely perfect and my husband couldn’t stop saying how good the beer was.
