My wife and I recently discovered this little gem of a breakfast restaurant while waiting for some car repairs in Sydney, BC.
We wanted breakfast, but not at any food chain and this popped up on the Google reviews. It's in an industrial area but the owners made restaurant's atmosphere very welcoming. There's lots of signs and mottos posted around that either warm your heart or simply laugh for it's vulgarity. Had the feeling of "East Coast Maritime" vibes.
The restaurant was busy at the time, but super well managed by one server named Carla.
She. Is. Awesome!
Super friendly, attentive and wanting to make sure you are comfortable. While she was running around like crazy, every guest who came in was greeted and acknowledged. She even took the time to warm my mug up for my tea which is a great little gesture of comfort.
Food portions are great! My wife and I got the Standard and 1/2 Standard and more than enough food for us and we splurged on the sausage upgrade which was delicious! We loved the variety of bread choices too. Marbled Rye was sooooo good!
Would highly recommend this breakfast place if you're a regular in the area or just passing through. This restaurant hit three major areas: Service, Atmosphere and...
Read moreComing from Victoria to Swartz Bay for the ferry on a Friday morning around 9am, the reviews at Homestead looked great so we left enough time to get breakfast on the way. When we arrived, people were inside eating but the door facing the main road was locked. Weird, so we tried side door: locked. I'm scratching my head and patrons inside are chewing and staring at our family. A woman got up and opened the side door to explain that they only had one person on staff so they couldn't seat any more. So they locked the door? How about letting people in and telling them approximately how long the wait will be. I felt like an idiot standing in the parking lot wondering why both doors were locked when they were inside eating. Reviews and pictures of the food looked great, but I guess we didn't make the cut this time. I've never run a restaurant, but I'd recommend keeping your doors unlocked and telling people there's a wait once...

The service by Simi (I hope I spelled it correct) was lovely and attentive. Whenever I go out to eat I order items that are too fussy for me to make at home… So I ordered the Eggs Benny and unfortunately for me, they fell flat. The sauce unfortunately came from a package and wasn’t homemade - as soon as you taste the sauce you can feel the grit from a powdered mix. If I wanted a pre-made/packaged hollandaise sauce I would have made this at home. The eggs weren’t done as asked, one was hard-boiled and the other was so runny the whites weren’t cooked…
I will definitely go back and try one of their lunch dishes.
The service made it a 4* review /...
