Super friendly nautically theme "cubby hole" restaurant away from busyness of downtown Sidney, BC but definitely worth the visit! When you enter the restaurant, the kitchen is visible immediately on your right. We were greeted immediately by both the cook and the server...made us feel very welcome.
There is covered seating outside before you enter the restaurant. Inside, there is artwork everywhere; quite attractive. There's a fireplace for chilly days, and a TV which was thankfully off when we visited. It's a cozy, relaxing space.
We ordered the for fish and chips, and popcorn shrimp. The for was delicious, the small shrimp met expectations. Serving size was plentiful for the price.
Located at Resthaven and Malaview Avenue in Sidney adjoining the Queens Store - look for the distinctive blue building. It's approximately 40 minutes (depending on traffic) from downtown Victoria, 10 minutes from Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal, and 5 minutes from downtown Sidney. The #72 transit bus goes right by Fish O Chips on its way between Downtown Victoria and the BC Ferries terminal at Swartz Bay.
I highly recommend stopping by for a visit. A couple unsure of what beverages to order were provided samples to help make their choice. Certainly got the customer experience in mind.
Free parking is available. A great start to exploring the Lands End area of the Saanich Peninsula. Many locals and repeat visitors greeted by name; for me, that's always a good sign!
Enjoy "Fish O Chips", a Sidney BC gem off the...
Read moreThis was a last minute decision to go for dinner here. This is a small restaurant. A hole in the wall type of place, not fancy, my type of local place. It was around 530pm, super busy, lucky to get a seat. They were short staffed and it was real nice to see the kitchen staff step onto the floor and help too. I'm assuming there is a reason why people like coming to this place and dont mind waiting when its busy like it was tonight. The staff here are very friendly, great customer service, food was great too!! Probably one of the best places all around to go for food in Sidney, maybe even Victoria, very satisfied. The reason I say Victoria as well is because you rarely ever see the entire staff which isn't many, pull together to make the customer experience worth coming back. For me it was heartwarming. They make you feel at home, and you can see that in the service and you can taste it in the food they serve. I had the calamari and yam fries, and by far the best Ive had. I'm use to getting calamari where half your order is deep fried batter and some of the calamari is decently prepared. Not this calamari, I got the full calamari and yam fries. Nice pieces of evenly battered calamari deep fried to a nice golden brown, real good, filling portion, yam fries were great too! My parents got the fish and chips which were just as good. My 4 year old son nibbled on fries and ice cream. Thank you so much for a great experience, everything was top notch, I will be...
Read moreImmediately after the owner being made aware of our displeasure in our review two weeks ago we received a phone call inquiry. The owner then launched what I believe was a Scotland Yard level investigation. The conclusion was that we may have recieved someone else's order which was undoubtedly Cod and not Halibut. This I believe to be logical in that the smell of Cod, even when precovid indoor dining, turned me off. So I must thank the owner for his understanding and offer to replace our order anytime. We will be pleased to return.
My wife and I have enjoyed Fish O Chips for several years. Recently we purchased our bimonthly order and upon bringing it into the car the smell of oil and fish was overpowering. But the time we drove the 10mins from o pickup to Brentwood the odour was nauseating. Upon opening our order we observed an oil laden mess. We bisected a piece of the halibut to see grey discolouration. We chose not to eat it. I immediately called to share our disappointment and enquire as to what had happened to the product. I was told the Fish Supplier had changed and that the manager would be informed. So THIS is how EX-patrons...
