We were hungry and tired when we stopped walking, and found ourselves in the parking lot next to Dickens Public House. A quick look at the menu (posted by the door), and a sign that said that kids were allowed when accompanied by a parent/guardian, and we decided to check it out.
The interior is a traditional pub, with dartboards (kids are not allowed to play, which is understandable), a bar, and a pool table (not sure if kids are allowed to play, we didnt ask, but I suspect not).
The menu was varied and interesting, and two of us had the daily specials (Thursday, so Jamaican Jerk Chicken Bao, and a Lamb Gyro), and the other two ordered off the regular menu (Stuffed Yorkshire Pudding, and Fish Tacos).
I wish I had taken photos, because the food was great! Portions were plenty big, service was great, and the food was delicious. We all ended up trading some things around to each other so everyone could try everything.
The fries were amazing.. light and crispy, but not so small that they were dried out shoe-strings. We were shocked at how much roast beef was in the stuffed Yorkshire pudding. The fish tacos were amazingly tasty with big chunks of fish in them and just the right amount of spice, and the fluffy bao buns took the Jamaican Jerked Chicken sandwich to a whole new level.
We were too stuffed to try any desserts, but they did look great also.
Highly recommend, we hit this place up for a later lunch, and it was not very busy, so we didnt have to wait for a table or the food. Service was great and food was hot and fast.
Highly recommend you to check this place out, as it seemed kind of "under the radar"...
Read moreMy wife and i went there a few weeks ago after playing a nice round of golf. We weren't super hungry but the weather was hot outside and we didn't feel like cooking. The service was awesome. The serving staff were all pleasant both to us and the 40 or so people in the restaurant. My wife ordered a chicken pesto pasta dish and I ordered one of their "Dog days of summer" hot dog platters. My wife rolled her eyes at me when I placed my order as if a hotdog was too boring compared to her dish. You would think that a hotdog is a hotdog, but let me tell you something. A lot of thought was put into the creation of this thing and a lot of care went into the preparation of it. From the finely diced onions and the nice little morsels of bacon all incorporated with the melted cheese, this was by far the very best hotdog that I have ever had from a sit down restaurant. The fries were nice and well seasoned, the bun fresh and delicious. My wife enjoyed about 1/3 of her pasta before "Helping " me eat my fries. We took the large amount of pasta home along with the other half of the hotdog that I couldn't finish. We live 5 blocks away from this place and will return. Might even throw a dark or two and shoot a bit of pool. Not to mention maybe a...
Read moreMy wife and I went to the pub around 4:30 for their Wings, and were promptly seated, and given menus. Neither of us drink alcohol. No 0.0 Heineken or Stella or Corona or Becks, just some brand called Street Legal 0.5 , fine. Terrible swill it was. My wife ordered water with lime juice. Placed our order for 3 different tastes of wings. When placing our order we were told by our server, my wife had to order a drink in order to be served food. “New Rule” she said, then said we make our money selling drinks not on the food. Wings were 90 cents a piece?! So, came to the end of our meal, there are 10 wings remaining, asked for containers to take the leftovers home. Server said, new rule I have to charge you full price on one of the orders, if everyone did what we did, they would run out of wings and have nothing to serve later customers. We questioned , and she said because we didn’t know the rules, she would not charge us extra. Not sure about the rules, however it certainly affected our opinion of ever returning to Dickens. Perhaps post your ‘rules’ on the menu, so patrons know. The food was great however the rules and the non alcohol choices are less...
