Was absolutely disgusted by the lack of service we received. Waited for 20 min after being seated to be acknowledged. I ended up fetching my own menus and had the group of 5 ready to order by the time waitress came. I asked how long it would take to get food before placing an order as we were short on time. I was told 15 to 20 min that sounded reasonable. We ordered miso soup, sushi, and tempura as we thought it should be fast. We waited for another 15 min to get drinks . Another 20 to get miso soup. I started to get nervous as my car was parked in 2 hr zone. One hour and a hald waiting for food with no end in sight. I finally flagged the waitress and asked my food to be packaged to go. At this point my kids were going stir crazy and the babe was getting dangerously close to nap time. The waitress was nice, appologized profusely and once again was gone for long time. A line up if people started to gather at the front ready to pay. Our table got half of order brought to the table, another half was not ready yet. I waited in line to pay and waited even longer to get the rest of the order. The waitress gave us 10 percent discount on food. So the bottom line is not enough staff for a busy location, patrons have to fetch their own menus, chase the waitress for drinks, cutlery, etc. Waitress has never checked once with our table or even acknowledged the food taking very long time. I am very disappointed as I have never had such a lack of service or care in the restaraunt before. I will never recommend this place to any one. Definitely not a lunch place as it takes over 2 hrs to get food and fight for service....
Read moreWe stopped here on our way to the ferry because my wife needed some kind of Asian food as she was “suffering from Asian food withdrawal”.
The place was busy, mostly with pick-up orders. We asked if we could get a table and we were directed to a table near the back of the room. This was a typical Japanese booth. Once there, we ordered An avocado roll, some Gyoza,a Donburi box and a soup.
Everything seemed fine and on-track, until it wasn’t. The food seemed to take a long time to arrive (most likely because we were on edge to get to the ferry terminal) once it arrived, it was the wrong order so we had to wait. It is not their fault that we decided to stop with not much time before we were to sign in at the terminal. We did let them know we had limited time (the acknowledged in a way that seemed they were well-versed with this type of order) and the servers were apologetic about the delay.
When the food did arrive, we ended up eating so quickly we couldn’t enjoy it as much as we could have, under other circumstances. Still, the soup was wonderfully flavoured, all the flavours in the Donburi were on-point, as were the flavours and sauce for the Gyoza.
All in all, a good place to eat (when not in a hurry) and good place to order to go if in a hurry!
Aside from them bringing the wrong dish, service was great, servers were friendly and helpful!
The decor is a bit off the wall, with a tiny bit of Japanese decor but mostly western-seafarer type paintings.
Place was warm - a welcome thing, on...
Read moreWe often stopped in at Taste of Tokyo for lunch and occasionally for early dinner. Our last visit unfortunately will be our last. The food quality greatly reduced. The miso soup barely warm and tasteless. The miso soup was always very nice. This visit it was very watered down and tofu really mushy and tasteless. Tea was lukewarm. My husband's tempura was soggy and the shrimp was obviously bad. Without details it was food poisoning. 3 days later he feels safe to leave the house briefly. I ate lightly but only had miso and part of an avacado roll. The avacado was so old it tasted bitter I did not finish. Our guest was not impressed and also up that night and morning like my husband. The service was terrible. I left my usual 20% top because the terrible change of food quality not likely his fault and the whole atmosphere as a whole was unpleasant but not his fault. A fight briefly broke out in the kitchen. Assuming because you are Caucasian you only speak English often is incorrect. My husband understands Chinese, Korean, Japanese. He understood most of what was being said between staff. We spent 88.00 on mediocre . We will go elsewhere in the future. Suishi at Thrifty's...
