Cons:
Waited to be seated despite there only being two other parties in the restaurant. Seated between the two other parties despite an otherwise empty restaurant. Wasn't asked for drinks. Underwhelming and uninspired menu, especially in the sushi department. Your basic selection, but nothing creative or interesting. No yellowtail. A restaurant that touts their sushi should have more options: cones, battleships, and futomaki, for instance. A disturbing amount of novelty rolls. (e.g., "Alberta Roll", "Canada Roll", "Crazy Roll") Server took the order incorrectly. Server missed items from my order, despite repeating them back to me. After the party in front of me left, another server rolled out a large trolley with several tubs of dirty dishes. A garbage can hung off the cart only a meter from my food. The sushi boat I was served on was very weathered and had very chipped lacquer along the edges. The croquettes were forgettable and small portions for the cost. Gyoza were obviously frozen and then overcooked in a fryer; the edges were very dry. The server did not return to check on us once, despite now only having two parties. My drink was not refilled once. The beef yakisoba was bland and flavourless. Having a lot of it only made it feel like a chore to eat. The yakisoba was burnt to the pan; the lower portion tasted noticeably of char. Server did not even return to bring the bill. Tired of waiting and so approached the counter for the bill. Was not asked how meal was.
Neutral:
Sushi aside from tuna and salmon was decent, but unremarkable.
Pros:
Complimentary barley tea. Food came quickly. (Only the) tuna and salmon sushi were fresh and soft. Large portion of yakisoba.
TL;DR:
This is far from "the best in St Albert", and the sheer volume of five-star reviews shocks me. Risk it if all you want is tuna or salmon sushi or sashimi and can handle the less-than-stellar service. Yuzen offers a more comprehensive Japanese dining experience with creativity and selection; their savoury ginger yakisoba alone makes it worth returning.

Read moreLet’s start off strong with this reviews. Is it the best in the city… yes! Should you get sushi here or go have dinner yes!!
Now that you’re sure, here’s why. There’s so many places to have sushi but this one in the city is definitely top choice for me.
They’re staff and service is so incredibly kind and catering to your experience. I love when they bring an item to the table to try while waiting for your order allowing you to samples items you otherwise may have overlooked or were yet to find.
The space is smaller but cozy and inviting in a location you could pop in on the weekend after the local market, or perhaps meet up with a friend and enjoy a walk after dinner. It’s clean, and open giving you peace of mind when dining in.
The menu has items many other places may have, but what sets them apart is the portion, the quality and the overall flavours. They also have items for both meat lovers and vegetarians both packed with flavour and fresh ingredients. Whether you’re looking for a few appetizers to share or maybe a combo platter to enjoy this spot is worth the 5 star review.
For those veggie lovers out there like myself, I would recommend the Yam rolls and Agedashi tofu… they’re Yam rolls keep me coming back!
Stop looking, this is it. Once you eat here it’ll become the favourite you’ll crave time and time...
Read moreWent to this restaurant today for the first time ever, and will never go to any other sushi restaurant again.
First off, we were greeted with a very warm welcome at the door, and were seated immediately. First thing, the atmosphere is phenomenal. It’s a small, cozy establishment with lots of warmth and lovely decor.
All the servers were very friendly and they even served us a little sample of the sushi bar (volcano roll — which we ended up getting). By the way, the sushi bar is right out in the open. Not hidden away in the back. You can see the focus and passion in the mannerisms of the chefs at work. They were also kind enough to serve an additional bowl of miso soup (best tasting miso soup — full of flavour not watered down) on the house!
Food was absolutely delicious. The spicy salmon sashimi just melts in your mouth. All the other rolls we ordered also had their own unique, delicious taste. For the first time ever did food look, feel and taste like a form of art rather than just a meal. And the presentation was absolutely beautiful as well. I was blown away.
As we paid and left, the chefs and servers all said bye and thank you. Will definitely be coming back to try other items on the menu. We recommended the restaurant to our friends and colleagues.
Thank you for the amazing service and...
