TL;DR: Very good, highly recommend. Cakes are great, staff is great, food was phenomenal.
My fiance and I were looking for a local business for our wedding cake and came across Confections. We booked a consultation and cake tasting, and everything went wonderfully. The owner met with us and discussed various options, we were woefully under-prepared and she was very patient. She helped us find exactly what were were looking for and walked us through the pros and cons. At the table she sketched a mock up that we adored and left us to privately discuss the matter while we sampled the 5 different types of cakes we requested.
We had requested vanilla with vanilla icing, tuxedo with vanilla, red velvet with cream cheese, chocolate with vanilla (yes we did realize at the time we basically got 3 of the same cake types), and finally confetti with pink champagne. The vanilla icing wasn't for me, but my fiance absolutely loved it. Every flavour of cake was phenomenal. Light and not too in your face with chocolate or vanilla, but a nice middle ground between too much and too little, so in other words: perfection.
The red velvet was probably the best I had ever had. It was warm and moist, the cream cheese icing was packed with flavour and so smooth. One that I wasn't expecting to like was the pink champagne. I am not a big fan of fruit-flavoured icing or cakes but man if it didn't blow my socks off. I spent so much time ruminating on my life if that was what I had been missing out on. It was light and fluffy, while also being creamy and almost melted on my tongue. The raspberry, as opposed to the normal strawberry, never felt like too much and right at the very end of each bite was a smack of champagne that didn't outstay its welcome, almost temping you to come back and get more.
Afterwards we decided to stay and have dinner as well. We ordered the French Onion Soup, Grilled Cheese, and a Caesar Chicken Wrap. While it was a bit expensive, every bite was well worth it. Home cooked is the best way I can describe it and that doesn't do it justice. Every bite of the French Onion was flavourful, warm, and the onions were soft and sweet. The grilled cheese was absolutely phenomenal, a near perfect balance of crunch, gooey cheese, and bacon. The Caesar wrap was also just as good. It had a nice balance of chicken and lettuce which a lot of places get wrong, and the chicken was well seasoned and juicy.
When we left, we also got a pack of small cupcakes and a cake-in-a-cup. The cupcakes had to be frozen, as they do not use preservatives, but were very good after thawing. My fiance absolutely demolished the cake-in-a-cup.
Lastly I wanted to say that the staff were very nice. We only met one server and the owner and both were very friendly. They checked in on us regularly, let us stay a little past closing as the consultation had gone a little long, and were chatty and warm. They made us feel like we amongst friends.
Overall the experience was 10/10 and I hope they keep up the good work. They are a hidden gem in St. Albert and I highly recommend anyone passing through the city to stop for a quick bite to eat at this wonderful...
Read moreI am not going to deny their cakes are good, however another aspect of running a business is customer service and that's where they lack.
My first time ordering with them, I called to order, no one answered so I left a message... I got a return call 4 days later.. I let that go, continue with order. I have my brother pick up the cake I ordered. Upon seeing it, they made it incorrectly. I called them in regards to this, and they apologise and offer a discount on my next cake ordered.. okay fine... 1 month later, I figure. well I might as well use them for the discount. This time I try to email. Got a response right away but they asked for a picture sample, so I provide right after... 5 days later, I email again as I haven't heard back. They finally respond on day 6, quoting me $215.00 on a simple 8" round cake. stating they are willing to give 15% discount for miscommunication.
I get this exact same cake quoted at a different establishment, and was quoted $120. 😅 Sorry but thats a big difference..
There are so many places available for cake orders that are quality, to over charge and to top it off take 6 days to respond to an email, Not how to run a business when there is a tone of other business's that can do the same thing, with same quality and better...
Read moreBrittany made our cake and cupcakes for our wedding on September 13, 2025, and they were absolutely stunning. She truly brought my vision to life with her creativity and attention to detail. The cake was everything I could have dreamed of and more—the beautiful sunflower design, rustic wood-grain detail, and touches of berries and pinecones tied in perfectly with our décor and sunflower theme. It became such a gorgeous centerpiece for our dessert table, and it looked just as amazing as it tasted.
Brittany was so wonderful to work with from start to finish—friendly, professional, and genuinely invested in making sure everything was perfect. Our guests raved not only about how beautiful the cake and cupcakes looked, but also how delicious they were. The flavors were spot on, and everyone could tell how much care she put into her baking.
