Lakeport Fish & Chips — Restaurant in St. Catharines

My family and I tried Lakeport for the first time tonight and I am quite disappointed. I ordered 3 meals and a side. Time-wise everything was completed in the timeframe they said, which is why I’m giving two stars. From the moment I called to place my order, the woman on the phone sounded frantic and immediately put me on hold. When I placed my order I said “lots of tartar and lemon please”. When picking up my order I made a point of asking if everything was in there and she was absolutely sure that everything was. Given that it is deep-fried food and how they meticulously wrap everything up, I didn’t want to open It all up and let out the heat. When I got home with my order I was missing my side, I had only 2 tartar sauces and 2 lemons for 3 meals, my fish pieces were exceptionally small and my poutine was complete mush- not to mention the photo online showed coleslaw and there was no coleslaw. When I called to speak to them about my missing side and lack of tartar and lemon she says that it will be put in their “comp book”. I explained my frustration that I specifically went out of my way to ask while there if everything was in the bag and I was reassured that it was which was not true. This phone conversation took place roughly 10 minutes before closing time so I was not even given the opportunity to come back and get what I paid for. It is what it is- but I will not...

Great fish and chips place. We ordered through door dash and it came within 30 minutes. Unfortunately the pollock and poutine was missing from the order. We called the restaurant to let them know. They offered to make it for us and we went to pick it up since it would be faster, wasn’t far from the hotel and we wanted to eat together as a family. The restaurant was very apologetic for the error and even threw in an extra fish and extra bacon bits on the poutine. That was so nice of them to do that.

We ordered:

seafood platter with haddock, scallops, shrimp, tarter sauce and onion rings Calamari strip dinner Mozzarella sticks Jalapeño shrimp with jalapeño dip Pollock with a side of poutine

Everything was delicious we forgot to take pictures until after we started eating several of the dishes so there are only a few pics. The batter is light and flakey, not too oily and the fish is a good size. The jalapeño shrimp is really good especially with the jalapeño dip. It’s only mildly spicy so even if you can’t take much spice it would still be ok. Scallops and shrimp are a good size in the seafood platter. Everything came nicely wrapped and labeled.

If I could give it 0 stars I would and I am one of the most understanding people as I worked in the food industry for 10+ years. But catching management encouraging staff to lie after ordering food is a red flag as a business owner. We ordered fish & chips for take out here in person - $70 for 2x 2 piece fish & chips even though online is cheaper. Only after which we paid were we told it was a 2hour wait! We could not wait that long as we had committments - so I asked for a refund. Our food had not even been put in to the kitchen and they told me “no refunds”. It is NOT written on receipts or the menu that they do not give refunds so clearly they did not want to do their job. Took 30 mins just to catch multiple staff and managers lying and making excuses about it to then get refunded by the rudest manager - and it was not even toward me - she was being rude to her staff addressing them instead of me. Overall the worst experience because of that manager and we had not even eaten despite hearing it was good. Will not...
