Yipin Handmade Fruit Tea — Restaurant in St. Catharines

This was my go-to bubble tea shop. I absolutely loved that they have coconut milk options. The strawberry coconut milk was my favourite drink and I’d often come to the city specifically for this drink, so I am very familiar with it.

However, on my visit this Thursday, my order was different. I ordered an unsweetened (0% sugar) strawberry coconut milk. My friend came with me and ordered a regular strawberry milk (100% sugar). I do not like the taste of sweetened drinks and that’s why the unsweetened coconut milk is my favourite.

When I tired my unsweetened strawberry coconut milk, it was overpoweringly sweet. I barely tasted the coconut milk and it just tasted like sugar. I’ve never had this happen or taste like this before. I tried my friends drink, which was suppose to be regular sugar, and it wasn’t sweet. Mine was 10x sweeter than hers.

I drove back to let the guy making our drinks that there was an error with my drink because there’s sugar in it. He proceeded to tell me he didn’t put sugar in mine and that it is the syrup that made it sweet and refused to remake my drink. Considering my friend ordered the same drink with the same strawberries and syrup, but with regular milk and regular sugar, and mine was sweeter and it was suppose to be unsweetened, it was obvious that was incorrect. Especially since I’ve ordered the unsweetened strawberry coconut milk many times before. That being said, it ended up straight in the garbage and was a huge disappointment. It really sucks because this was my favourite spot and now after that service I don’t want to go back.

On a side note, upon this visit, there was also a corgi in a cage. The cage was barely big enough for this poor dog to move. It definitely put a damper on the usual comforting atmosphere.

Very cute Local Bubble tea store! I love the ambience of the store, how people have written down their goals and hung it up on the walls. The baristas are so nice and friendly. They have so many options to choose from and the tea really is handmade fresh to order. It was too bad they didn’t have enough tapioca when I ordered but they make a fresh small batch every so often depending on how many customers they get during the day. Me and my fiancé dropped by Gracie’s bubble tea shop and was very impressed with the quality of the bubble tea. Yippin uses real fruits that are locally sourced unlike the other bigger bubble tea chains. The tapioca was also very soft. The atmosphere was very welcoming with the wish cards and giant teddy bear.
