Soban Sandwich Café — Restaurant in St. Catharines

Soban is a sandwich, coffee, and dessert café with absolutely excellent service and food. I've had an opportunity to visit 4 times now, and I've been so completely satisfied every time. The highlights:

• Strawberry Latte. Absolutely delicious. Very decadent. Rich and sweet and very unique.

•Affagato. Enough said. Wonderful combination of espresso and ice cream and delicious little treats in it.

•Butter tarts. I make a point to order butter tarts when I come across homemade ones. These ones did NOT disappoint. I would eat a dozen of them.

•Sandwiches. The turkey croissant was phenomenal. Delicious croissant. Fresh crisp romaine and tomato. Very satisfying lunch.

•A great selection of teas! My wife is excited to try every one of them.

Along with the fantastic service, this has become one of my favourite places for coffee and treats. Also a great place for coffee and dessert if you've been dining next door :) As I sip my cappuccino now, I am pondering which delightful experience I'll choose on my next visit.

Maybe a slice of that awesome looking cheesecake? Or that hearty looking red velvet cake? Only time will tell.

EDIT: The red velvet cake is great paired with a cappuccino. Very light. Fluffy. Perfectly balanced. Not too sweet, just perfect. :)

Found this place when I just wanted to sit down at a local café while also supporting small business.

My girlfriend loved her strawberry latte (I may have also taste tested—twas’ delicious). I ordered a cappuccino but was mistakenly given a caramel macchiato—when I tell you this macchiato was great, I’m talking I didn’t even really stop to enjoy it thoroughly cause I couldn’t put it down.

When the server realized the mistake I had already downed it. They were truly apologetic offering to remake the drink to which I declined because I enjoyed it so much. Refusing to accept the same they gave me a free treat (it was also delicious). I still went to tip and they only reluctantly accepted after I continued to insist (and again the macchiato was amazing)! They sent us away with ANOTHER free treat.

Found my new favourite café and would recommend it to anyone in the area whether local or visiting.

Absolutely amazing café! Soban Sandwich Café is a true hidden gem in downtown St. Catharines. The sandwiches are incredibly fresh, loaded with quality ingredients, and perfectly toasted.

Their pastries and baked goods are all made in-house and taste just as good as they look. I had a korean style sausage bread, and it was delicious—crispy outside, soft and buttery inside. The coffee is smooth and well-balanced—one of the best lattes I’ve had in town.

The café itself is cozy and welcoming, and the staff are so kind and attentive. You can really tell they care about what they serve and how they treat their customers. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion size.
