Athens Greek Souvlaki & Gyro — Restaurant in Stratford

Where to begin? (AND end!.. given that I have so many compliments to leave, and probably limited space to do so, !!!) But...here goes!... I am a quasi-recent newcomer to Stratford and a long-time lover of the authentic Greek cuisine offered at the annual Greek Festival in my Northern Ontario home town. By happy happenstance, I decided to try this Greek restaurant. You can call me "DELIGHTED!!" to have found Terry's home cooking restaurant right down the street...and what's more...AVAILABLE throughout the year, not just at an annual festival. I've done mostly take-out because... tho' the place is bright and very clean, the actual seating is somewhat limited, but I'm absolutely convinced that 'ere long, Terry's business will grow massively, and he may be forced to consider another larger location to serve his ever-enlarging customer base.

He is a wonderful, very gregarious and personable man, in addition to the necessary chef attributes of creating excellent provisions at reasonable cost. I offer an example of his caring, 'aim-to-please' customer service...after several visits, I once was indecisive about ordering the 'one piece' vs the 'two piece fish' & chips order. To help my vacillating, Terry invited me into his kitchen to personally select whichever pieces of cod that would please me. What a guy!!

He is ALWAYS PLEASANT, as are his staff (although secretly, I think at times they, too, must be 'blown away' by his generous nature.) The food is never unsatisfactory...be it be the pitas, gyros, souvlaki, spanakopita, baklava, fish & FRESH CUT chips, meal deals or single items ...each and every one delicious!!

I must admit, seeing it from the outside had piqued my interest, but didn't scream exciting to me, however, after trying the food I regret having waited so long to try it. Do not judge this place by its unassuming location.

My party had ordered the Gyro pita lunch special, which you have to be there before 3pm on mondays-saturdays to get, coming to just under $10 before taxes, and were not disappointed at all. The gyro was cooked and to perfection, and the pita although messy, was vibrant in different complementary tastes. Not only this, the fries were also splendid and left nothing more to be desired. I couldnt recommend the Gyro Pita special more. Every single part of this dish compliments eachother. In terms of bang for your buck, Athens Greek Souvlaki is easily the best place in Stratford and maybe even in Perth County and it's not even close.

The staff was also quite friendly, offering to tell us the specials when we weren't quite sure what to have, and adding kindness to the already vibrant atmosphere.

Though the music was a little loud for my taste, the wonderful flavors that hit your mouth eating here are even louder, and make this place a MUST try for anyone visiting stratford, especially for...

Exceptional dining experience! The food here is outstanding, offering both authentic flavors and generous portions. The prices are reasonable, providing excellent value for money.

The owner is truly the heart and soul of this establishment. His warm personality and genuine care for his customers elevate the entire dining experience. Always present and attentive, he greets patrons with a welcoming smile and often takes the time to chat, making everyone feel like a valued guest rather than just another customer.

His commitment to hospitality was particularly evident when we arrived just before closing time. Instead of turning us away or rushing us through our meal, he graciously invited us in and served us himself. Throughout our late visit, he maintained a friendly demeanor, ensuring we felt comfortable and unhurried despite the late hour.

The combination of superb food, efficient service, and warm hospitality makes this restaurant a true gem. We're already looking forward to our next visit. Without a doubt, this establishment deserves a five-star...
