Review from Canadian-born Asian Guy eating his way through the Vietnamese restaurants in the Lower Mainland.
I eat a lot of Bun Bo Hue. It’s my go-to order at most restaurants that offer it. I’ve heard that Huong Viet does a pretty mean bowl so I was excited to try it. I’m going straight to the point and saying that this is one of the better bowls that I’ve had in awhile and will place it in my top 3. The combination of the flavourful broth, the ingredients included and the wallet friendly price makes this a winner. Expect to see cuts of brisket, Vietnamese ham, pork ball, pork hock and a cube of pork blood. If you don’t like the latter you can ask them to exclude the blood from your order. I apologize I didn’t take a picture because I was too busy devouring it. I will update with a picture the next time I come back. **Note: they are closed till late this month as they’re on vacation. Better to call first before visiting to make sure...
Read moreI ordered the lemongrass chicken with spring roll and husband ordered the 3 meats on rice. It was 8pm when we came so there was no other customer in the restaurant.
The food was flavourful and the spring rolls were really delicious. I’m docking one star off because this is probably the only Vietnamese restaurant I’ve been to in a really long time that served the lemongrass chicken bone in. It also wasn’t fully cut so it was very difficult eating the chicken attached to all its other adjacent parts. Also the bone fragments, blood and the marrow were falling into the vermicelli making it extremely frustrating to eat.
I managed to eat the meal but with the need to constantly spit out hard fragments and congealed chicken blood. Also, it was over cooked.
I will come back again to try other things but I’m sadly disappointed with the chicken which is usually my go to.
Pro - no taxes and no cost for take...

However, best Bun Bo Hue soup in Surrey at this location. Bun Bo Hue = Spicy Pho Type soup served with bean sprouts and red cabbage.
Their regular Pho is just average here.
However if you have a larger party, try 5 kinds of beef. It's an amazing experience for your taste buds. It also comes with a numerous amount of veggies, so this might be a healthy option.
Sadly, if you come here close to 10am expect to wait at least 30-45 minutes for your soup. They claim to open at 10 but don't actually start heating up the soup until 10 so disappointing wait times here.
5 stars for the food quality but 1...
