I love diners and I love breakfast, so this place is an easy hit for me. I had the omelette of the day and my dining partner had the perogies and farmer's sausage. Both our meals were substantial and tasty. I particularly enjoyed the hash browns: they're lovely sliced potatoes pan fried with scallions. Everything else was good but these stood out as remarkable since even my favorite breakfast places so far mostly have shredded potatoes or deep fried cubes.
It seems like there's only three people running the place: cook, front of house, and someone who seemed like a combo expediter/busser/helper; the service wasn't as fast as some places I've been, but I also wouldn't call it slow. I liked that there's a window into the kitchen so I can easily see what's going on back there.
My only temptation to take off a star just for the ambience. It's clean and open, but doesn't have that cozy diner feel. That said, I kinda liked it and it certainly won't stop me from going back. Be forewarned though: it's almost 80's cafeteria.
I got there at 11 and it was empty but while I was there five more groups came in, all of whom seemed to be, if not regulars, at least familiar with the place and had been there before. Seems like a bit of a local favorite.
Overall the place was clean and the food was great and a good value. I'll be back for sure, and if I lived in the neighborhood I doubt I'd ever go...
Read moreWish I could give this a zero star review unfortunately. Went in today after my mother in law made a reservation on Thursday (today is Sunday,) which apparently they "can't actually reserve because it's too hard," but didn't tell us that until we were already inside. Had a party of 6, but were sat as a table of 4, which wasn't much of an issue because we were waiting for an extra table and were happy to wait a little longer if needed. In the meantime, another group who apparently also had a reservation at the same time came and the man who works (owns?) There practically asked us to leave our table because "they are regulars and have a reservation." It wasn't our fault if they didn't write our name down. Also, this was right after they told us "they don't reserve because it's too hard."
While we were sitting we asked if we could see the Menu while we wait. Literally were told "No." Because apparently they only give the menu to EACH table IN ORDER based on when the kitchen is DONE cooking meals. What kind of restaraunt doesn't give out menus and keep orders in queue!?
Needless to say, we up and left because we've never seen such a pathetic attempt at customer service and this is after we drove from Vancouver to White Rock because we had heard good things about the food. Definitely will...
Read moreWent in for a late lunch around 4 pm today. They close at 5 so we made it in. I ordered the french toast with berries. It came with berries and a lot of them! Weve been noticing lately that fruit has been disappearing off of plates at the popular chain restaurants so this was a pleasant surprise. My plate for $12.50 was tasty!! My husband had the full order of salmon eggs bennie for $16. He was delighted to see how much salmon came on the bennies. It was a sizeable portion. He usually doesnt like pan fries but he ate all of them on his plate. He said the hollandaise sauce was tasty and made the potatoes taste good. Its not very often we go out and both have a tasty meal and want to try other things off the menu again and again but thats the case here. The husband served us and was hospitable and kind and the meal was warm and full of flavour at a good decent price. We overheard him tell other patrons that they make their own hamburger patties in house and we cant wait to try. Other customers also ordered the chai tea and he explained that it takes time to make which also sounds fantastic. We really like this place and cant wait to return. We support small family run businesses just like this one!! ...
