EDIT: Dropped by again today. I'm not sure if ownership has changed over the last year but there are some differences to note. They don't seem to carry other specialty beans any longer and only have JJBean for sale/being used. They previously offered different beans to try out when purchasing drinks in store which was a fun aspect. I believe they also used to provide pour overs but don't appear to do that anymore. Espresso beverages are still well made though.
Baked goods also seem different, I'm not sure if they changed caterers or in-house recipes, but things are a bit more on the home baking side rather than a consistent higher quality.
Space is still quite nice with plenty of seating. And I will still return because it's lovely to have nicer local coffee shops in the area. Awesome to have a good coffee shop outside of Vancouver!
The space is beautifully decorated with lots of seating, and very clean. Service was friendly and efficient. The latte was good. Mocha was a bit on the sweet side but no bitterness noted at all, it is only available in the large size for some reason so I wasn't able to finish it. They carry a variety of beans which is awesome to see. Didn't try any of the baked goods this visit but will definitely be back to try...
ย ย ย Read moreI've been going here for about two years now as an alternative to the giant international coffee chains. They source their coffee from the local JJ Bean supplier. Most of their treats and eats, if it isn't made in house, is also sourced from the immediate local area. Personally, I've become addicted to their: chocolate chip cookies, strawberry mango smoothies in the summer, hot chocolate in the winter as well as to their Sunday crepes. Most of their soups are great too, and I've often gotten soup to go to reheat later in the day when I've come home. Finally, when I've wanted a sandwich I've found I can't go wrong getting a grilled cheese or a chicken sandwich. The owners are warm and gracious - especially when you get to know them - but I can see how some find them a bit cold,? - it's not that they are cold but more that they are shy and quiet. If it gets busy be patient, the food and drink are worth the wait. Also the cafe features work from local artists and serves as a meeting place for different arts groups and those needing a gathering place.
NOTE: I havenโt gone here often for about two years now as of November 2019. Miss the days when it was GDSC. Found the selection since it turned to Kaffuna to be poor. The original owners of GDSC now run a great spot called EVERGREEN on...
ย ย ย Read moreStumbled across this hidden gem while driving in and out of the Save On Foods parking lot. I say hidden gem because itโs the first proper coffee shop weโve discovered since moving here from Vancouver a year ago. We thought with all the money in this suburb there would be sure to be more niche and aficionado type spots for food and drink, but not so much! Mostly chains and not the greatest quality of independent locals. That is until we found this gem! They do proper pour over coffee and they know what they are doing. They make a mean matcha latte and they donโt use the typical garbage commercial matcha powder that is just full of sugar to mask the quality of the powder or drink preparation. Dairy alternatives to boot. Erin runs a tight ship and is a master at her craft. The service here is awesome and itโs got a great vibe. Definitely a regular spot for many that frequent here which adds to the good energy. I highly recommend coming here if you are looking for the best coffee in the hood!
EDIT This shop has seemingly changed hands since I initially reviewed it. The staff all changed over and the drinks are no longer consistent or made well. I have since stopped...
