Stopped by Burger Factory in Surrey with my wife and toddler, lured in by bright marketing, bold signage, and that comforting hum of a fryer working overtime. The place looked the part - clean, colourful, and casual. But as every reader of a good story knows, appearances are just the prologue.
I ordered The Machine (10oz beef patties), hoping for a burger that roared. What I got was more of a mechanical failure. Two overcooked patties that quickly fell apart. The bun, felt a few days old. Tired and brittle, began falling apart before the first bite - as if it had given up long before I had. Mustard, my one and only modest request, arrived in such excess that it staged a coup and overthrew every other flavour.
I swapped my combo’s fries for tornado fries, imagining a fun twist for my toddler. They looked playful-spirals on a stick, almost carnival-like. But one bite, and the illusion shattered. They’d been fried past redemption. It was like eating a pack of Lays glued to a skewer-crunchy, hollow, and soul-less.
My wife ordered a crispy chicken sandwich. What she received felt like the fast-food version of a breakup text: two tenders tossed in a bun, drowned in mayo, and finished with the very pickles she asked to be left out. She quietly flicked them aside and chewed through her disappointment. When inquired about the tenders and why no patty, the simple response was that’s how this sandwich was made. My wife accepted the defeat thinking she should have competed the much required due diligence.
Even the drinks - simple, dependable cans - were served barely chilled. A warm Canada Dry is the culinary equivalent of a shrug.
Our toddler, the unknowing optimist, was the only one who left happy.
All said, the meal felt like it was homemade - but in that “I forgot to defrost anything, so here’s what I could throw together” kind of way. 4/10. This story had a strong setting, but the plot fell apart faster than the bun...
Read moreI’m a picky eater by choice—I simply don’t believe in consuming calories that aren’t worth the taste. So when my husband kept raving about a new burger joint in town, I was cautiously curious. The place is called Burger Factory, located in South Surrey, and from the moment we walked in, I was pleasantly surprised. The vibe reminded me of the burger spots I’ve visited in the States—simple, bold, and focused on flavor. It turns out this is a franchise originally from Toronto, and if you know anything about Toronto, you know their halal food scene is top tier.
We ordered the Ultimate Beef Utility and the Lucy Chicken burgers, and of course, we went all in with an upgrade to their poutine fries and cheesy fries. The Utility Steak was juicy, full of flavor, and had the perfect meat-to-bun ratio. The beef was seared with mushrooms and onions, then tucked into a soft roll that held everything together without getting soggy. Every bite was tender, savory, and seriously satisfying.
The Lucy Chicken burger was next-level. It had a thick, juicy patty with melted cheese in the center, layered with fresh toppings and a soft, toasted bun. And that jalapeño kick? So good. It had flavor, balance, and just the right amount of heat.
And let’s talk about those fries—crispy, hot, and made from real, freshly cut potatoes. These were home-style fries, skin-on and perfectly golden. The poutine was a standout: smothered in silky, well-seasoned gravy and topped with warm, whole cheese curds that were soft, flavorful, and held their shape beautifully. Total comfort food.
If you’re looking for a spot that serves halal burgers done right, this place is it. I’ll definitely be back—and that’s saying a lot coming from a picky eater.
Thank you, Burger Factory, for opening up in BC and so close to the beach. We’ll be visiting all three locations—including the ones...
Read moreI recently visited this burger joint with high hopes, but unfortunately, the experience was a bit of a letdown. The burger tasted average, with the patty being on the drier side. To make matters worse, the burger was overly sauced, which didn't quite balance out the flavors.
We tried Juicy Lucy, Meat Machine, Cheese Burger and Nashville Chicken tenders.
What really took away from the experience, though, was the communication breakdown with the order taker. We asked to swap out the regular fries for tornado fries, but they didn't clearly mention that we'd be charged extra for the tornado fries. As the order taker himself offered that we can get tornado fries instead of regular fries. We were surprised to see the extra cost on our bill, and it would've been nice to have been informed upfront about the price difference when we made the swap request. It’s not about the cost it’s more about the transparency.
On the bright side, I was thrilled to see that they use fully halal meat, which is a huge plus for me. It's always a bonus when restaurants cater to dietary restrictions and preferences. Additionally, they had Mountain Dew Zero Sugar, which gets them an extra point!
Overall, while the burger place has potential, they need to work on their food quality and communication to elevate the customer experience. With a bit more attention to detail and clear communication, they could easily become a go-to spot for...
