Tap and Barrel south surrey had been open for three days. My friends and I attended to watch a Jays game. It was 3:00 and the parking lot was pretty much full. Four e-vehicle pay charging spots. T&P located on the second floor, took the stairs but there are two elevators for accessibility. Patrons however were lined up on the stairs which was uncomfortable and precarious. We did have a reservation. One hostess found us in their ipad then passed us on to another hostess who again asked us if we had resers. We were shown our high top table for 4 in the lounge. Placed was packed, it was happy hour. This place is huge apparently accommodates 400+. The lounge/bar is a large bright open area with probably 40 seats around the bar itself. Many high top tables and large booths running along both sides of the windows. There are low top wheelchair accessible seating on the glassed in deck which is open year round. There are three outdoor decks having umbrellas which weren’t open. No beautiful skyline, water or groovy views just parking lot and 99. The kitchen flows the full length of the separate dining area which has a variety of seating. The wheelchair accessible bathrooms are beyond the dining room. Over all the bathrooms were smallish two cubicles and three urinals. They were clean and well maintained. If you’re in a wheelchair on the far side of the bar it’s quite a length for some to wheel over. Able bodied also complained it was far. Lots of big screen TVs even on the permanent open deck. Food was typical T&B arriving quickly and hot. Prices trending higher like others. Pushed the envelope and order the 7 oz sirloin. Was cooked to my liking but overall a little tough but was a sirloin! Too much mash potatoes I ate 1/3. Had to ask what the vegetable was as I couldn’t differentiate, was glazed carrots they were ok. We all found it curious who was actually serving us as we counted no less that 5 servers dropping into to see if we needed something. My main perhaps only complaint was it was very noisy being a big open metal and glass cavern. At peak of happy hour it reached a crescendo and we were pretty much yelling at each other. I found it interesting as there were quite a few kids/families but that added to the general welcoming ambiance kinda like Browns on Main St. Its pretty clear that this place will do well here in underserved south surrey. A few smaller struggling places have closed anticipating its massive draw ie. Town Hall, Big Ridge Brewing, others? Met the President of T&B who was friendly, in the trenches and obv committed to its launch success. Apparently evenings are booked solid for 2 weeks. Over all we all had a great time, found the food above average and curious, staff very pleasant an approachable. In the end the guys and the large table of women next to us agreed we had found our new...
Read moreThank Morgan, for reaching out to me regarding my experience. I appreciate your quick reply. I returned to Tap and Barrel yesterday, and my experience was excellent. Our server (the bartender, I did not catch his name) was attentive and ensured our food came out as ordered. Overall a great experience that would make me return to Tap and Barrel.
I went to the South Surrey location. It took a while to seat us at a table even though the restaurant was quite empty. However, when seated, a server approached our table immediately and asked if we had been helped. She brought us water and said she was unsure if she was serving our table but would find out. No one returned to our table for at least fifteen minutes. I had to flag someone down to ask if we could get some drinks and food. My sister ordered a beer flight. A lot of the beers were unavailable, which was a shame. We ordered nachos as a starter. My sister does not like sour cream; she specifically asked if the sour cream was on the side, and the server said yes. We do not like olives, so we asked for no olives. The nachos came out quickly but had olives and sour cream all over them. We waited a few minutes, but the server did not return, so we removed all the olives. My sister picked at the nachos without sour cream. The server came back after fifteen minutes and asked how everything was. When we told her, she asked if we wanted new nachos even though it was evident that we were already done. She asked if we wanted to order anything else. With our horrible experience, we were going to pass. She offered us a free dessert. We declined. I expected the nachos to be taken off the bill because they were made incorrectly. Instead, they appeared on the bill. We ordered guacamole, which was a rip-off. There was next to nothing in the container that was served to us. The nachos cost $22, which is quite pricey, especially when you only receive half a plate. Also, the picture of the nachos on google photos differed significantly from the nachos served to us. Overall, a horrible experience for my first time at this location (I have been to the one in Vancouver many times). I was unimpressed by the lack of service, quality, and quantity of food. I filled out the feedback form online and am still waiting for someone to contact me about my experience. It shows how much they care. They are opening another location in Langley; it will be interesting to see how...
Read moreWe had reservations for my birthday on Saturday, June 10, 2023 and were seated in the enclosed patio area. We did notice mice on the outside and thought nothing of it, they were on the other side, we’re good. When we were the only ones left that’s when we did see 3 mice on the inside. We promptly moved to a table in the lounge. At this point staff closed the sliding door between the lounge and patio. We asked to speak to a manager, while waiting I saw a mouse on the table scampering across the table and sniffing around the cutlery and counted approximately 3 roaming around on the floor. At this point it was absolutely disgusting. Every table on the patio had cutlery ready for the next business day. Little did we know that mice were running around everywhere in that space during off hours.
Dani came by and stated that they were very aware of the mice issue, but were contained to the exterior and they had measures in place for pest control and then advised that they were NOT in the restaurant. I asked Dani to look at the patio area for a moment and she did see them. There was no disgust or shock from the manager or our server Natasha.
It was very clear that they knew mice were on the inside and we should just deal with it. Our concerns were completely ignored and both staff members were very indifferent to us. I asked our server to let her manager know that we would be doing a review. I provided an opportunity for them to make things right, but they chose not to. There was no sympathy, no apology, not even compensation for my birthday dessert.
There’s not much we can do about the rodent problem, but take some responsibility. Imagine knowing that you used cutlery a mouse had been near or touched, they carry diseases and are contaminated. It’s disgusting. This was a complete customer service fail.
In the second picture, the mouse is...
